What type/style and/or model of antenna is best suited for listening to the low freq. of 40.0 MHz to 43.0 MHz on a Uniden BCT-15 or any scanner for that matter?

Any suggestions/advice you have on outside models/styles and inside models/styles would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

While not perfect, an easy antenna to get for that would be a CB antenna...CB is on the 26-30 range so it's close and easily available...

In a fixed location, I would go with a homebrew dipole.

Mobile, I would get a CB whip and cut it to length.

You could look at a commercial 1/4 wave ground plane like the DB-201 which is field tunable, but not cheap. There used to be a fiberglass antenna from Celwave PD-1142 or 1143 I think, ordered for specific freq ranges. A good discone (Diamond or Comet, not RS) would be ok also if properly designed to go to 50 MHz, not one with the added whip on top (although some of those can be trimmed to specific low band frequencies).

The trimmed full size cb whip works well on a mobile, I have one cut for 52MHz for ham use and it works great on the power company's 48MHz stuff.

Hi Don, I used to live over in Greenbrier in early 90's.

I hear okay using a 2m 5/8 wave whip (same as a 6m 1/4 wave whip). No problem hearing the local bus services on 47 mhz and when the band is open, I hear skip on 42mhz.

I can hear "okay" on CB, well enough to tell if the band is open, anyway.
