• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey guys hope y'all are having a good Christmas Eve/Christmas day, Although I love the XTS/APX series of radios P25 is not to widely adopted at least in my area and the radios are super expensive. So I want to look into getting into DMR (MotoTRBO) and thought I'd ask to see if anyone had any advice. I was kinda wanting to get the Motorola XPR 7550 radio due to the color and bigger screen. I would appreciate any and all help, Thanks!

Edit: Looking to use the radio for ham radio.

What kind of advice? What are you looking to do with it? What are you looking to get from it?

What are your intended uses for TRBO? Conventional DMR digital (ham), using it on a commercial system (Connect Plus, Capacity Plus, Capacity Max)?

The 7550 is a fine radio. If you need the additional support for trunking, the particular radio you are buying has to have it already added by EID or you purchase the EID for the intended feature(s) and add it via CPS.

Also, remember that if you wish to use this (or any) MotoTRBO on 25KHz wideband, you must also have an appropriate 25KHz EID added to your installed copy of CPS to program anything wideband.

One caveat is that there is no practical way to connect an external antenna (for mobile/base use) to a 7550.

But all in all, a great radio with killer sensitivity.

Ah did not think about saying that! I would like to use it via repeated and simplex as a personal radio on ham radio.

One nice feature about the XPR7550 is the radio does the whole 403-520 MHz split, vs other radios being either 403-470, & 450-520 MHz. Also the 7550 has the best receiver [sensitivity] than any other radio. It will hear distant stations that no other DMR radios will hear.
