Not sure what your asking? For AEP use in that area plug in
01 855.13750* 02 855.41250 03 855.76250 04 858.88750
in that order that will get you AEP in that area. Now the city stuff just use the DB.

Anybody in Jefferson County OH have any luck hearing AEP traffic on the Steubenville system? I've had the scanner a week and haven't heard a peep out of AEP Steubenville or East Liverpool.

I did reprogram the AEP sites into my 996 again (because when I went and looked, there were no frequencies listed under the sites). Unlike the Moto systems, I added all of the channels. Should I add only the control channels for AEP EDACS or should I add all freqs for that particular site?

Thanks

Mike

AEP uses the following in Jefferson County;

855.1375
855.4125
856.2875
858.8875
LCN

I leave my scanner in the ID search Mode. I hear them just fine.
Also don't forget this is a EDACS System
They are group 04-025 They say Steubenville Trouble Truck 77XX.

RICK! Damn you man! I was thinking about you every time I went to this forum wondering where the hell you had gone and whether you were still alive :) Good deal man. You'll have to give me a ring and stop up sometime. I'd really like to see you again and catch up bud.

Thanks for the info on the trunking for AEP - I will try that. This newfangled trunking stuff I'm just not used to - I thought I had it all entered right but I'm still not hearing anything. So I'll just remove it completely and restart from scratch using your info.

Again, great to meet up with you again man! We had a lotta fun for a lotta years scanning the valley here. Now that we have the Internet it'll be that much better!

Ahah - I think I found my problem. Thanks for the tip Rick. All LCNs were set to 0 - (didn't realize what those little numbers were in the RR database next to the frequency) - So I set the frequencies list above, from top to bottom, as LCN 1 through LCN 4. Reloaded them in. We'll see how it goes. I'd hope for a power outage, but if one occurs I wont be able to monitor it :)

Heard:

TGID 996 (AFS 07-124) - via New Alexandria site
TGID 997 (AFS 07-125) - via New Alexandria site

Had volume down so couldn't hear traffic, but I'll be monitoring it. I'm guessing this is going to be voice traffic from the Cardinal Plant - after all, I don't think I saw any other reference to the Cardinal Plant in the trunkgroups, and the Cardinal Plant is a significant power plant.

UPDATE: TGID 997: Heard transmissions from a woman talking to a guy at 12:30 AM stating that a representative from US Builder (or US Filter) will be coming to the gate - and to please escort them into the plant. Given that this is heard off of the New Alex tower, it is leading me to believe that it is Cardinal Plant traffic - quite possibly security. More monitoring needed to verify though.

RE: AEP Cardinal

When I was on an outage there earlier this year, I also got 7-124 as mostly security traffic on the gates.
7-125 Was more like Operations stuff, and you could hear the AEP trains switching and moving the unit trains to and from the unloader.

Site 310/313 - Steubenville/New Alexandria

The following sites need updated in RR (already submitted):

Site 310 (Steubenville)
Site 313 (New Alexandria)

AEP EDACS
System 1871
Site 310 (Steubenville)

RR lists:
(01) 855.1375
(02) 855.4125
(03) 855.7625
(04) 858.8875

LCN #3 is wrong - see http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/licenseFreqSum.jsp?licKey=1927916&keyLoc=14884668

LCN #3 should be:

856.2875

856.2875 happens to be the control channel as of 12-28-2006

--------------------------------------------------------------

Site 313 (New Alexandria)

RR lists:
(01) 854.8625
(02) 855.1125
(03) 855.3625
(04) 855.6125
(05) 855.9375

LCN #5 is wrong - see http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/licenseFreqSum.jsp?licKey=1927938&keyLoc=14884784

LCN #5 should be:

857.2875

857.2875 happens to be the control channel as of 12-28-2006

I hadn't heard activity on AEP Steubenville or New Alex and knew I should be (they are a stone's throw away) - I conventionally scanned the channels and could hear them when they were talking - and there was no control data on any channel. So I investigated. FCC shows different data than RR does. I changed LCN #3 for Steubenville and LCN #5 for New Alexandria and the control data was back and trunking active.

Aep Steub

I'm not getting any noise associated with a control channel on Steub. New Alex comes in strong but Steub does not come in at all. I even switched the old no. 3 freq and back again.

As of 8:57 AM today the control channel for Steub AEP is 856.2875. I hear the CC data right now.

855.1375 - LCN 1
855.4125 - LCN 2
856.2875 - LCN 3
858.8875 - LCN 4

Make sure that you have the correct LCNs. I think the RR DB is now up to date if you just want to reload the Steubenville AEP site into your scanner via RRDB.

What I did was simply go into PROGRAM SYSTEM / selected AEP / EDIT SITE / chose Steubenville / EDIT FREQUENCY and edited the old frequency that was the third frequency and changed it to 856.2875 and made sure the LCN remained 3 and it was working again.

That's cool - New Alex has more activity on it anyway it seems. Although Steub does get busy as well. Imagine, living in Steubenville and getting a better sig off the New Alex tower :)

Possible new AEP EDACS Site - #218 or 318 or 418

Found an EDACS control channel on 856.8625. Weak but readable. A search of the RRDB doesn't reveal anything even remotely close to me (other than Adena) for AEP that could be this.

Unitrunker reports that 856.8625 is LCN 3 for the system.

The system reports itself as site 18 (and in unitrunker that could be 218 / 318 / 418). If it were 218 or 318 it would be an OH site. If it were 418 it would be a WV site.

In depth search of RR and FCC databases yield two potentials - both AEP. I do not know the proper LCNs for either of these - but if the FCC online database 'Freq ID' is the LCN order, then the frequencies are listed in order and Panther WV is probably the site. If the FCC online database 'Freq ID' does not always correlate to the LCN of the system, then Adena OH could be the site. However, Panther WV would be real DX for me - I'm in East Ohio and Panther WV is at the bottom of WV. Adena is in my own county. Neither is listed on RRDB as an AEP site.

1. ADENA, OH
WPCQ238
855.2625
856.8625
859.2875
855.0125

2. PANTHER, WV
WQCG997
855.5375
856.4125
856.8625
859.4125

New AEP Ohio Site (and new unknown TG)

New AEP EDACS Site

WPCQ238 - FCC Data

Site: 318
Location: Adena, OH

LCN 1 855.0125
LCN 2 855.2625
LCN 3 856.8625 (current CC)
LCN 4 859.2875

LCNs have been confirmed via Unitrunker and parking on the CC and scanning the other three frequencies on another scanner.

Heard 531 (04-023) St Clairsville Customer Service and 537 (04-031) Belmont Service and 533 (04-025) St. Clairsville Local talking this afternoon along with occasional data bursts.

Also seen many hits (but wasn't around to listen to them) on the following unidentified TGs:

TG 822
TG 911 (heard specific data on it - not typical AEP data bursts - sounded like much higher speed data)
- data bursts from this site / TG occur ~ q.2-3 minutes after 5 pm
TG 559 (this TG is close to other Belmont area TGs)

Site neighbors are site 301 (Kilgore), site 306 (not documented yet), site 308 (Deersville), site 309 (St. Clairsville) and site 313 (New Alexandria) - determined via Unitrunker and Packets.

As far as numbering goes, there are other Belmont County TGs in the 550s - so given that I'm hearing that TG off of the Adena tower and that TG is close in number to other Belmont numbers, it's probably some Belmont or SC Power stuff.

I don't hear _anything_ off the STC tower since it's too far away from me (I'm up in Toronto - quite a bit north). Adena is about as far southward that I can pick up, and that only barely.

If you have one of the unidens (at least the newer ones), and if you are using ID SCAN mode instead of ID SEARCH, then you are going to miss things - because Jefferson/Belmont county is _not_ well documented as far as the trunk groups they are using. That's obviously still a work in progress. So if you just have certain TGs loaded and are running in ID SCAN mode (on a uniden), you'll only hear talk groups that are in your scanner. You'll never hear the unknown groups. You need to run her wide open in search mode so that it picks up every TG that may be going through the local system - of course that means you'll end up getting data bursts and other things from time to time from TGs that are specific to data telemetry and you'll have to lock those ones out.

AEP TG 1020 (07-154) - Cardinal Plant Rail

Been monitoring AEP TG 1020 - Specifically off of the New Alexandria site (Cardinal Plant area).

Below is a .WAV file of activity. I believe it to be railroad activity within Cardinal - or if they don't have railroad, then some sort of vehicle coordination.

http://www.ovscan.com/SS/AEP-07-154.wav

Somebody listen and tell me what you think.

After discussions with STA75 and monitoring and recording locally, we believe that TG 533 (04-025) is not STCL LOC (st clairsville) but rather STBVL LOC (steubenville crews).

Monitoring reveals lots of activity with radio ids 771x - which are confirmed Steubenville crews. Radio ID 810 is Steubenville Dispatch and is active and heard on TG 533 on a regular basis during the day.

In the WAV file below you'll hear references to Salineville, Hammondsville, and people calling Steubenville Trouble and vice versa.

So I believe TG 533 is Steubenville - I don't know what the detailed description should be.

If anybody reading is in Belmont County, they might want to verify that they also don't hear local activity on TG 533 specific to St. Clairsville. But I figure if St. Clairsville was using TG 533 and Steubenville crews were monitoring 533, I'd be hearing St. Clairsville units on TG 533 and I don't. So I think it's Steubenville.

You be the judge - http://www.ovscan.com/SS/AEP-04-025.wav

Radio IDs heard on TG 533 include:
RID 810 - Steubenville Dispatch
RID 7713 - Steubenville Truck
RID 7716 - Steubenville Truck
RID 7728
RID 7987
RID 7879
- and numerous Icalls between 771x RIDs and others.

TG 533 (04-025) is confirmed as Steubenville Trucks. I work in Follansbee and listen to Aep in Steubenville and the New Alex tower. I was listening yesterday and they were talking to dispatch on it. If you know anymore Tg/Id's for Steubenville please Pm them to Me.

Thanks, Joshua
