To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey all,

I’ve got a Network Radio that I mostly use for Zello, and it needs a SIM card compatible with the AT&T or T-Mobile networks. I’ve heard that I can get by with a basic plan offering around 200 MB of data per month, and I’ve seen a few options out there for about $5 a month.

Does anyone have suggestions for a good, reliable SIM card provider? How’s the coverage been for you with those cheaper plans?

Tello Wireless. They use T-Mobile Bands.

Mobile X from Walmart works great for my needs; however, I believe it runs on Verizon's network

I pay $2 per month to keep active and $2 per gig. If you don't use the data you paid for, you get a credit on your next bill.

You create your own plan. So, if you don't need call or text, you only pay for the data.

I use Simbase. $0.02 a day to keep it alive, $0.03 per MB for data. I've used it seamlessly in Canada and the US so far.
Can I ask what radio you are using with the Simbase service? I'm looking at some cheap KSUN radios to play around with, but some have mentioned they will not work with SIM cards in the US.

I have a KSUN Zello Android ZL18 arriving tomorrow. Can anyone confirm a data SIM card that will work in the US? Thanks!

My Z18 arrived. Works great on WiFi.

Just an activated a Tello SIM with a data only plan. Getting a strong wireless signal. SIM status is showing "TELLO", GSM, and "Voice in Service/Data Out of Service." It's assigning an IP number, but Zello is stuck on "Signing in..."

Tello customer service only says everything looks good on their end, so the device is likely unsupported.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

check to see if your device can roam? when I setup my laptop its has to be in roaming to be able to use the data.

Thanks so much. I found a solution:

SETTINGS
NETWORK SETTINGS
ACCESS POINT NAMES
(THREE DOTS IN UPPER RIGHT CORNER) New APN
NAME: wholesale
APN: wholesale
(THREE DOTS IN UPPER RIGHT CORNER) Save
Select "wholesale" APN.
REBOOT

Working perfectly with Tello mobile data!

I recently purchased a KSUN KSW-ZL8668 Dual Mode PoC Radio. I'm not sure what type of SIM card will work with this device. I contacted Tello but I ended up more confused with their response. This is a 4G phone but I don't know if it supports VoLTE.

My KSUN Z18 ended up working fine with Tello (see post above yours). But Tello uses T-Mobile towers and coverage wasn't the best in my area. Switched to Simbase (they use AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon towers) and had great coverage.

thanks for this info, I'm paying T $140.00 a month for 4 unlimited lines. I passed the IMEI check. I've been on some disaster deployments where my phone worked but my team mate's Verizon did not. Overall I'm glad I dumped Verizon, had lots of drop outs in our home going from front to back with them.
