Pleasure to be apart of this discussion. You will be able to tell pretty quick that I am new to this hobby and my question for all you well knowledgeable individuals is will a Uniden SDS100 be an effective scanner for this new radio system? Also when you say encrypted what exactly does that mean when it comes to scanning.

The SDS100 will receive this system quite nicely.

"Encryption" is the practice of using secret codes to make a radio transmission unreadable except by those who know the code. This secret code is loaded into the radios that the agency uses and not provided to any other party. Scanners are unable to follow an encrypted conversation and there will never be a scanner or other radio receiver that will defeat encryption as it is against the law to do so.

Radio ID update from here in Calgary. Monitored on site 098 (Bankers Hall)
- most TGs are being rebroadcast on the surrounding sites.

Also getting RCMP on 2964 with Ids like: 4449447 & 4449660. PACS still seems to be going strong here however - wondering if the during the switch over (this year?) we will get some simulcasting on PACS/AFRRCS? If so we might be able to nail down a few more talk groups.

Transition to AFRRCS is well under way. I would expect most detachments to be on AFRRCS this year.

At least one person I know that monitors AFRRCS and PACS saw zero patching when switching from PACS to AFRRCS.

I think 1151 is in the range of groups we've seen AHS protective services (412xxxx) on before.

356 and 357 with those IDs are in the range that Sheriffs use. There's some discussion that 356, 357, and a few others in the 35x-36x range are the Sheriffs part of ALERT, and 410xxxx radios (and the 35xx talkgroups) are another part of ALERT.

402xxxx I think we've said was Agriculture & Forestry. 34xxxx is Grande Prairie County (not sure if just FD or FD + other users).

As for 460.385, this is off topic for this thread but that's a MotoTRBO/DMR frequency. You would need a radio capable of receiving DMR to listen to it. (Didn't you get an SDS100?)

SDS100 Yup, I'll just program it in, tried to on the 396 but no go for 460.385.

34 is Strictly County Fire and County CPO

1002 active today (non-encrypted) on site 098.
Had a 501 agency dispatcher working AHS on "Mutual Aid 12" - I think I heard Red Deer named. The dispatchers set up the channel and that was the last I heard of them "I will set up the conference". I was looking at the published list and I don't see a listing for 1002.

Finally bagged Alberta Environment on 4046.
