I hate to be the dullest knife in the drawer but........I just ordered my second bcd436hp because the old one had a damaged battery charger input slot.I attempted to load a couple of my favorite systems but only one of them would load or scan as expected. Tried the Sentinal as well as the Butel arc 536 pro. Any suggestions??? Two of the desired scans come from the same exact system SNACC The other is the local airport a conventional system. Only one of the departments will scan even though they show up on the index of loaded systems.

Make sure that you update your database and right click your favorites lists and make sure "download favorites list" is on and then write to scanner

on your scanner, make sure the favorites lists you want to listen to are on, and the full database is on. then make sure the service types you need are active. Let me know if you do this and are still having trouble, or if you need any clarification

Hey techues, don't feel bad - a couple years ago the 436 had me pulling my hair out, so I sent it back to Scanner Master (because I don't have much hair left har har) and I took a break and came back to it and have no regrets at all. I would not even have or understand or comprehend digital scanners if it were not for this website and this extensive forum. Lots of help here. Always try to sniff out your topic before asking the question, I can almost gar-on-tee that it has been asked and answered extensively somewhere here in one of the appropriate forums and it will come up in a generic search.

I believe there is even a Wiki link to a list of common errors to investigate when you get the dreaded 'Nothing To Scan' message on the scanner screen. I bet your oversight, assuming there is one, can be found on this list. Good luck with it!

Why didn't you just send it in to Uniden for repair?
With shipping it'd have cost you approx. $90 - how much did you pay for the 2nd one??

Oh, on the subject - this is a classic not having the service type enabled symptom...

The X36/100 seem to take a time to learn how to program. I am still learning and making tweets to things when I find out something. I got too use to how the 396/996 style worked.

Thanks for the response, I will keep you updated as to any further issues or if this gets solved with your suggestions. After all this time I guess senioritis could have taken over.

I didn't want to go without a scanner for as long as it would take to fix and return mine. I can now send it in and when it returns I can attempt to sell one or the other or just keep one as a spare. I may also be able to take it to the local Ham store repair and see if they can get the socket......several options.

Would you say to use the Butel or the Sentinal software?

Definitely, choose Sentinel. Butel is a 3rd party overrated software program with horrible customer service, this opinion based upon my own dealings with them. Hey I don't whine about it, you live you learn, but if someone asks I will steer them away from Butel. IMHO only. Sentinel is more Uniden-friendly and easier to navigate and learn, and you have friendly Uniden Support guys here in the RR forums, and a lot of other knowledgeable folks to help you out if you get stumped.

In “Set scan selection” insure the favorites list is enabled. In “Select service types” insure the service type set in your Departments of the systems you have in the favorites list is enabled. Be sure to use FL number tags to turn favorites on or off. But if the favorites list isn’t enabled in “Set scan selection” turning it on and off by entering the FL tag will not work because the favorites list was not loaded due to not enabling it in Set scan selection.

Sentinel and Proscan is quite a great combination. I have not used butel products since the xt series.

That is the exact combination I use now and it works great. The ProScan creator/engineer, Bob, is an active member and poster here in the forums and is known for excellent customer service. Very nice virtual display and ease of operation with the ProScan software, not to mention very affordable and liberal with the license!
