what is a good after market antenna to use with the BCT8. Will I get better reception with an after market one or will it be about the same as the one included with the scanner?

Where are you using the scanner?
In an aluminum sided house? in a basement?, in your car?
What systems are you looking to improve performance on?
Can you put an antenna outside and up high?
Typically a tuned after market antenna will give you much better results, but more info is needed before suggestions can occur.

I would be using it in my car traveling through out York Region, Toronto, Durham and various other places.
antenna suggestion
Comet SMA 3 works for me. Available @ ham radio dealers, maybe a bit pricey. Works well with Fleetnet, 400 mhz, and 800 mhz mobile, especially when scanner is attached to sun visor. Also folds in the middle with the top section flexible; a nice feature, allows me to put my scanner in a small bag or glove box.
