I wanted to share something with you all that helped me a lot. The original knobs on my SDS200 ( volume-squelch) seemed a little short for me and tough to maneuver with my large hand and fingers. I found a vendor on Ebay that sells replacement knobs that are not only longer, but easier to grip.
I received them today and they are a breeze to install and use. I wanted to share this on here in case someone wants to do the same thing. The set includes the large channel selector knob that while nice and large originally, is much easier to grip in the aftermarket set.

This also seems like it would solve the problem I have with glare off of the channel selector knob.

I currently have the orange ones to help them stand out in lower light. I tried the glow-in-the-dark ones, but they wouldn't "charge" very well in the cab of my truck.

I'm telling you the pictures do not do them justice. They fit nice and tight, the price is reasonable and they look amazing. No more issues with the use of the knobs by my sausage fingers. LOL

P.S.
The small hole on the channel selector knob had a small screw that came with it so you can tell where you are with the knob according to the seller. Since it is not a squelch or volume knob, I took it off.

I bought those orange ones originally but changed my mind once I saw them in black. Very happy with the upgrade.

Do the factory knobs just pull off or is there a trick to removing them?

Yes, they all pull off but may be a bit stubborn.
I've seen posts where some people work a credit card or something similar that won't scratch anything between the knobs and the scanner face to get them moving.
I was able to just grip mine and pull them right off back when I did the hum fix.
The scroll knob on the 536HP model is harder to grip as it is tapered smaller as it extends away from the radio. The SDS200 knobs are fairly straight and can be gripped with clean fingers.
Sometimes wrapping one of the large rubber bands around the knob allows a better grip if your fingers can't grab the knobs tightly.

Piece of cake. Wrap them in a small piece of electrical tape in case you want to ever use them again. Then get some pliers and “gently” pull the knobs forward. They come off really easy that way. Feel free to be generous with the tape.

We have a couple of those flexible rubber things that people use to remove tight jar lids. Flexible, grippy, and won't leave marks. I'll give one of those a try first and if that doesn't work will use it as padding for when I resort to pliers.

Interesting.

Wish more folks could do stuff for the SDS series, since Uniden has apparently, and unfortunately left them stagnant for years now.

I think I'll order a set.

No they haven't. As has been explained in a few threads in this sub forum.

My set of knobs arrived yesterday. Probably took 10 minutes to install, and that included going back into the house to find a different set of pliers.

A bit lighter than the OEM knobs, but that's not a big deal. If I had taken a bit more time, I might have done a very light sanding as the edges were a touch sharp. I probably won't do that as they'll wear down a bit with use.

They fit fine and offer a better grip than the OEM knobs. Also, the scroll control is not shiny in the sunlight so there is no distracting glare.

A nice little touch for a great scanner.

Looking at the knobs on the listing I’m not sure if I like the black option enough to replace the stock ones but I’m considering buying the desk stand. It’s bloody frustrating that Uniden has decided to put the speaker on the bottom for the last few models and unless they hid it in the menu seemingly even decided to eliminate the option to flip the display upside down on the SDS200 so we can flip it over and put the speaker on top.

The after market SDS200 knobs are taller, shaped better, and a bit "grippier." Also, the channel selector knob isn't chromed so there is no solar glare off of them on bright days.

I’m a vampire working non-dayshift hours. All my windows are covered and the brightest I’m working off of is candle light or computer/tv light. Actually the scanner displays are probably the brightest light source out of anything I have giving off any light. No need to worry about solar glare for me! 😂
I do really like the desk stand though. I’ve been searching for a good option for one of those.

I like the aftermarket knob concept, and I know several people who have purchased them and were quite satisfied. I'm sure many realize that they should tuck the original knobs into a safe place. This may sound somewhat trivial, but if your SDS radio ever required service, would you send it back with the original or replacement knobs? I don't know how much manipulation or "prying" is required to get the original knobs off the radio, but I can imagine a scenario where Uniden repair could say that the radio became damaged because the user of the radio "tampered" with the original equipment.

Mounting the unit under a dashboard makes putting the speaker on the bottom not such a bad idea.

Glad I can plug my own (Better sounding) speaker in!
