Does anyone remember, on the eastside of Indianapolis on US40 (The National Road) white lines painted on the roadway one minute apart at 60 mph, so you could check your speedometer.

You mean one MILE apart?

Maybe for speed enforcement (Vascar or Timed)?

Yes, one mile, at 60 mph a mile a minute. No, they were not for enforcement. There were signs up, telling people to check speedometers. This could have been 50 or more years ago. For enforcement, hoses were strung across roads to key an air switch to start and stop a stopwatch, re: time & distance =mph. Long before RADAR & LASER & VASCAR
