Chances are this never happens but I thought I'd ask. What if Fight for life and Air life are all busy? I know both have more then one aircraft. But if for some odd reasion all are tied up. Who backs them up? Do you call in one from Greeley? Maybe the springs? Or does the national guard help?? Again I am sure this never happens, but what if? Are you just SOL? Or would you call a ALS bus?

They'll transport via ground if ETA to long. Rescue rolls to all medicals. Have heard Engines do emergency transports & other rescue vehicles including police cars

Hey busses are in New York City there ambulances or rescues out here.

SOL is no air is avail patients are transported via ground and that's often faster, and certainly much cheaper.

Off-topic a little bit, but thinking about what Jim said about "cheaper", does standard insurance cover air ambulances? I imagine that the cost is tremendous for them. I remember reading a while back about rural agencies calling in helicopters sometimes when they weren't necessary, whether it was to avoid having to make the long drive to the hospital or for non-critical patients.

We had Greeley Airlife-911 as our third choice and Buckley AFB available for MCI type incidents. Other than that it defaulted to ground transport..

Down in South louisiana we have a company called Acadian
and in their fleet they a fixed and rotary wing aircraft called Air Med
and a couple pirouges boats to get way back up in the bayous where
ground ambulance or an Air Med unit cannot get to. For the kind
folk that do not what a pirouge (pee-row) boat is it's dugout cypress
tree made into a boat. They have to paddl that priouge real fast not
tump it over. IF this happens everone on board becomes gator, if you

Airlink? That's Scottsbluff.

Medical Center of the Rockies will be a level 2 trauma center when complete and I have also heard they are considering applying to be the sole Level 1 outside of Denver as well, and along with that would certainly be consideration of a helicopter base.

Yes sole level 1 trauma center outside Denver, currently the only Level 1 trauma centers in the state are Swedish, DG and SAC.

Level I Provides the highest level of definitive and comprehensive care for patients with
complex injuries. Emergency physicians, nurses, and surgeons are immediately available to the trauma patient. Level I Trauma Centers are responsible for research, professional and community education, prevention, consultative community outreach services and programs statewide.

Level II Provides definitive care for complex and severe trauma patients. Emergency physicians and nurses are in-house and immediately available to the trauma patient to direct patient care and initiate resuscitation and stabilization. A surgeon is available upon patient arrival in the Emergency Department. A broad range of specialists, comprehensive diagnostic capabilities, and support equipment are available.

Level III Provides initial evaluation and stabilization (surgically if appropriate) to the trauma
patient. Comprehensive medical and surgical inpatient services are available to those patients who can be maintained in a stable or improving condition without specialized care. Emergency physicians and nurses are immediately available, and surgeons within 20 minutes, to assess, resuscitate, stabilize, and initiate transfer as necessary to a higher level Trauma Care Service.

Level IV Provides initial evaluation, stabilization, diagnostic capabilities and transfer to a higher level of care. May provide surgical and critical care services as defined in the service’s scope of trauma care services. A trauma-trained nurse is immediately available, and physicians are available upon patient arrival in the Emergency Department.

Level V Provides initial evaluation, stabilization, diagnostic capabilities and transfer to a higher level of care. May provide surgical and critical care services as defined in the service’s scope of trauma care services. A trauma-trained nurse is immediately available, and physicians are available upon patient arrival in the Emergency Department. The facility must have an afterhours trauma response protocol, if not open 24 hours daily.

Great info Jim! For such a large state, it's too bad that all three are within 20 miles of each other. You are the medical expert! It does look like the main difference between 1 & 2 is the research, etc. areas. I didn't know that Swedish fell into that category. PS / Your showing your age calling it DG ;) .
