In my over 30 years of DXing, I have heard skip on almost every band up to and including 800 Mhz, but I have never heard long-distance skip on the 108-136 Mhz air band! Has anyone ever heard distant air-to-ground or ground based stations by way of Eskip or ground wave skip (that is, signals from at least 300 miles or more away) on this band?

I haven't heard it myself but I have heard pilots talk about distant stations that suddenly appear or disappear when they climb or descend through inversion layers.

On a clear Night with a Good antenna mounted High (Which I have) I can hear Oklahoma City ARTCC, during the day I can't. but true, skip like we've heard recently on VHF one dosn't really hear on Air Band. that is interesting.

When I used to fly out of Central Illinois, sometimes we would hear Atlanta Center on one of the local approach frequencies if the conditions were right. There used to be a website out there of a Ham out of Texas who would listen for DX out of the nav stations 108-118 MHz. Had some recordings of VORs and ILSs from hundreds of miles away.

Yes, I have here in Scarborough, Maine (next to Portland) many times.

I have heard:
The transmitter for Moncton Center ATC 123.900 based in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
I've heard the transmitter for NY Radio on 129.900 based on Long Island, NY.
I have also heard the transmitter for Huntress which is located on Cape Cod but that
was UHF 228.900

Hi guys,
Well, it's after 11pm here and I still am getting tropospheric ducting on the civil aero
band. I first heard it around 3pm this afternoon. I wrote down which freqs I can hear
the ground transmitter from and used Google Earth to get the distance from me to
the transmitter site.

118.500 St. John Radio - St. John, New Brunswick 250mi.
ALSO on 118.500, Hanscom AFB Tower (KBED) - Bedford, MA 90mi.
123.900 Moncton Center - Yarmouth, Nova Scotia 212mi.
125.050 Pease A/D (KPSM) - Portsmouth, NH 42mi.
125.925 NY Radio Oceanic - Barnstable, MA 131mi.
128.375 Moncton Center - Yarmouth, Nova Scotia 212mi.
128.400 Pease Tower(KPSM) - Portsmouth, NH 42mi.
128.750 Boston ARTCC - Barnstable, MA 131mi.
129.900 NY Radio Oceanic - Hyannis, MA 131mi.
134.100 Brunswick NAS Clearance/Delivery - Brunswick, ME 30mi (This comes in
most of the time, just has been very clear today)
135.200 Moncton Center - Yarmouth, Nova Scotia 212mi.

By looking at the freqs, most are East and South of me.
My wife came home from work and said she was having trouble hearing an
FM radio station in her car that was located in Portland, ME (6 mi. away)
yet she was getting Boston stations booming in. I had that problem too
early this morning.

Hey Jetcrafter,

From where you live, can you sometime pick-up New-Brunswick freqs other than air (106-136mhz) like the RCMP (police) in the 150-160 mhz range?
