I primarily use my portable radios for DXing on shortwave arms for listening to sports, talk and music on AM and FM. But I notice that my Tecsun PL-660 has air band on it. I’m a lifelong aviation fanatic, but until now I’ve never tried to listen to anything on air band. Does anyone have any advice on where to start? Alas, I’m not near a major airport. Two regional airports are within 20 miles, though.

I live on the small Hawaiian Island if Molokai and there is only one small airport here. I live about 20 miles from it and I can't pick up anything from home.

When I am in town about 6 miles from the airport, I cam pick up some transmissions. I have gone to the airport and have been able to listen to them on three frequencies that I found doing a Google search.

I have a C. Crane Skywave SSB2 and it works really well. I planed on doing another video with me out by the airport soon.

Here is one video with the repeated weather on the air band. I have a few others on my YouTube channel that has the tower talking to a plane.

I don't know if it helps much but I thought I would throw it out there.

Try asking someone at the nearest flying club what frequencies are in use in your area. You will likely hear the airplanes rather than the ground facilities as the higher the transmitter, the farther the range.
