Any way to pick up on both sides of an air to car converstation? I am only getting the airplane not the state trooper's response. Very active today less than a mile from my location. 458.700 CT 127.3
Thanks

You'll only hear the trooper on the ground if he is close enough for you to pick him up, as the Air to Car operations are simplex, not repeated. Obviously you'll hear the plane much farther away than the car because the plane is 1000 feet in the air.

You are right, I added a mag base portable to the roof top, and now am getting both sides of the conversation... Holy cow, people are driving way too fast today! 100 mph in a 65! Ouch!

Theres a lot of air-2-car traffic around Janesville just right outside of cedar falls, a dumb place to ever speed imo

sorry to bring up an old thread... since it is simplex does that mean that one channel for both or the car would be talking 5MHz below the plane?

Both parties operate on the same frequency. As opposed to duplex with an offset.

I believe that the Troops have 155.5050 in their Motorolas. I do know that around here they will use uhf portables when the plane is out. It is easy to hear the plane side of the conversation but hard to hear the trooper side due to the 5 watts.

155.505 has been dead for several years .ISP is still licensed on it and it is still programed into the radios but almost all air-ground traffic is on eithe 458.700 or 458.950

Recall that 155.505 wasn't used in eastern Iowa because it interfered with Illinois Highway Patrol frequencies.
