I just bought a BC350C Mobile/Base Scanner so now, I am obvioulsy looking into an appropriate antenna.

I want to build one for the aircraft band (123.000)
I'm about 12 miles from the local airport (just a small regional) and was wondering if any of you have any suggestions or plans for an OUTDOOR antenna.

A simple vertical dipole or ground plane will work fine.
A discone will be slightly better (Probably not worth the effort).

Use good cable, as bad cable can lose much more than the best antenna can gain.

Thanks for the advice! I'll probably just go with a discone since Ill likely get one in the future anyways.

Here's a link you might try. I built one cut to 120.0MHz and just stuck it up to a large window inside. I have a handheld RS PRO-95 and it works much better than either of the two hand held antennas I have. If nothing else it is cheap. I already had some unused 75 ohm TV coax, so the only cost was for the plug for my radio. I'm about 7 miles as the crow flies to the local airport.
