Airband Heard Better During The Day

Hello

I have something that is bugging me that I am hoping someone can explain.

I recently placed a discone antenna on my roof for scanning purposes. For some reason I receive signals in the airband VHF frequency range very strong during the day but then at night they are quite weak and crackly.

Does anyone know if there is a phenomena that causes this or if it is just my setup or area?

Street or house lights? Compact flourescents are famous for RF interference.

Discones are designed to RX a huge range of frequencies. Try moving your antenna, using an airband only antenna, and then a filter just in case it's radio interference.

It could be a possbility you picked up ducting that day, was it that day only?
