These are one of the best satcom land based portable antennas out there on the market today with high gain when picking up communications from pilots, satcom frequencies and etc. I have owned mine for a year now and it never let me down. These antennas are pricey around the
$400 to $900 sometimes more all depends on the seller and what the antenna comes complete or not complete. I paid $600 for mine in excellent condition.

Here's the link to them:

Trivec Advant satcom antennas

Maybe @prcguy will sell my one out of his garage stock for about $100.00

Maybe they've fixed it then? Look at the test. Half the signal are gone even up in the 135MHz range and 100 times down (20dB) at 120MHz.

My most common frequencies out of Selfridge Air National Guard Base are 119.000 & 119.600MHz.

The smaller fold out Trivec-Avant UHF satcom antennas like the 2040 series are roughly $3,500 new. Larger ones upwards of $7k and more. Here is a used one for a ridiculous price as is everything from Toronto Surplus. Trivec-Avant AV-2040-2A / AV20402A / 2040-104 / 2040104 Portable Foldable UHF High Gain SATCOM Satellite Communication Antenna

+1
MilTenna Omni UHF/VHF Base Antenna

I'm not familiar with the AVANT SATCOM antenna. What is the cost on that one?

That's insane! Our tax dollars at work. As my dad used to say, a fool and his money are soon parted! :ROFLMAO:

Once again no technical justification for them to cost so much.

Yes there is. Every component and raw material received by the mfr is tracked, traced and tested multiple times plus every step of manufacturing is inspected and recorded and tested, etc. The paper trail on a mil spec item is insane and costs a lot of $$. I worked for Hughes Aircraft in the 80s and 90s and experienced the paperwork madness and am happy to not be doing that now.

I know this is an aircraft base antenna thread but I guess a UHF satcom antenna can be used as a UHF aircraft base antenna, so here is more info on pricing.

The more common Trivec-Avant 2040 series with two director element assys, a case, original coax assy in perfect condition is worth about $350. The same antenna without directors which makes it a two element cross dipole over reflector is worth maybe $175-$200 in well used condition. The D&M version would be worth a similar price and smaller lightweight versions a little less. The huge D&M base version that is about 9ft long with tripod is worth roughly $700 plus or minus depending on condition and if it has the transport case.

Most people ask way more than what I quoted and my prices are from current dealings with people in the mil radio hobby and selling a bunch of my stuff recently. In the end, supply and demand drives prices and if there is nothing for sale for a long period of time, the first thing that comes available will usually go for a lot.

With that I have sold a Trivec 2040 series for upwards of $700 and a magnetic X-wing version for $900 to a mil contractor that couldn't live without them. A few weeks before selling the X-wing for $900 I had picked up two of them on Ebay for $35 each.

Now back to aircraft base antennas and I would recommend the OP watch Ebay, sometimes surplus airport antennas come up for reasonable prices and they would cover the entire 118 to 136MHz range. Look for brands like Antenna Products or TACO or sometimes DB Products for the fiberglass types and Antenna Specialists, RAMI and a few others for ground planes.

I'm somewhat familiar with that process. When I worked for General Electric I sold control panel devices to Detroit Edison when they were building the FERMI 2 Nuclear Power Plant in Monroe County, Michigan. Everything cost SO MUCH MORE due to the so-called certification process.
No comment. :censored:
