FYI, just noticed on the Airfest 2018 website; List of prohibited items includes: "Ham Radios, walkie talkies, Scanners." Just be aware of this if you plan to attend; Scanners were always allowed in the past; they just did not want any radios that would transmit.

That seems to be the norm now on military bases. Noticed a post a couple days ago about air show in Myrtle Beach SC and last year they did it at Wings over Wayne at Seymour Johnson AFB in NC.

Funny side note on the Wings Over Wayne show, the main entrance wouldn't allow scanners, but a side entrance did. I used the side entrance and ended up having a harder time bringing in a chicken sandwich and Gatorade than I did my scanner (outside food and drinks not allowed) .

I have not been to an air show in years. I use to have a routine of carrying a backpack and chair folded in bag. After 9/11 it just got to a point of why bother. Medial dectors clear bags and what ever else. Do not know why ham radios can not be allowed.
