There is an Airlife Helicopter landing up on the Lincoln Monument on I-80. The helicopter is trying to contact the ambulance (MS 44 from Laramie) on Wyoming mutual aid 154.875. The helicopter can hear the ambulance but the ambulance cannot hear the helo. The helicopter is talking to Weld Fire South 154.785 and they are relaying by phone to Albany County dispatch and the Highway Patrol dispatch in Cheyenne. There is also an Albany County deputy trying to reach the helo but no answer! I can hear all of them here 50 miles east. What a mess! Maybe they should all get CB or FRS radios so they could hook up!

Sounds like some radios may have a PL programmed where they shouldn't...no other reason that a orbiting helo can't reach an ambo on a simplex channel.

I noticed the same with UW Medfight a while back. I think you are both right.

Hope Mr. Bush's $$$300 mil to the FCC will help?

PL tones

Actually they recently put mutual aid on a repeater with a PL tone. If you had no PL tone loaded at all you would still hear it but you might not be heard. Anyway, somebody needs their radio reloaded. I wondered about the wisdom of putting PL on the mutual aid freq, especially since the helo was from Colorado and everyone else was from Wyoming. Hopefully they will resolve it, the helicopter was able to land ok, so it wasn't all that bad.

Wouldn't someone have like Med9 or Med10 to fall back on as well?

I bet they have the vhf 155.355 etc and uhf channels 462.xxx, they should have tried those.
