I flew into the Atlanta airport on Delta Airlines recently. I noticed that out on the ramp where the jets pull up to the terminal, there were posted black and white signs with the Delta AM aircraft band company frequencies on them, presumably for the benefit of the flight crew arriving or departing. I don't remember the exact frequencies, but there were three frequencies listed, it was something like, "Ramp Ops. 129.850; Cust. Svc. xxx.xxx; and another abbreviation I don't recall and xxx.xxx.

I was wondering if anyone else has ever noticed this, and if it's an airport specific practice, or maybe a Delta Airline practice. I did not write the info down, but if this is done everywhere, it would be relatively easy to build an accurate database of airline company frequencies and what airport they're used, especially if other airlines do this.

It is actually fairly common. I can recall seeing various Tower, Ground, Unicom and company channels posted around various airports from the air-side. For example, Glenview Naval Air Station in Illinois had the 2 Tower channels and the 2 Ground channels on a sign near the tower.

Yes Rich, I too have seen airports with the tower and ground freqs. posted mostly out on the ramps and taxiways, but this is the first time I have ever seen airlines' company frequencies posted like that!

When the airliner pulls up to the ramp, it seems a bit late to be providing the frequency. They usually call "in range" about 15 minutes before landing.

I've noticed this for Delta at Atlanta and I think (but don't hold me to this) at either Cincinatti or Tampa.

I'm not sure if Delta has multiple company channels for the various terminals or such. This might be a reminder for a new crew to ensure one of their radios is set to the proper company freq.

I imagine at Atlanta that they use more than one frequency. Delta has so many flights in/out of there that I would imagine there can be a fair amount of frequency congestion at times.

They do that here at KSLC - on the side of the concourse, they post the maintenance frequency (129.90), and as you enter the ramp controlled by the Delta Ramp Tower (131.45). They are also a couple of signs in places where you would exit the ramp onto a taxiway and it says something to the effect of "HOLD SHORT, CONTACT SALT LAKE GROUND 133.65".
