Airnav adsb antenna mod

Hi all, has anyone modded one of these antenna's, they come with some ultra thin coax, and I was thinking about changing it out for some good quality stuff with the hope of increasing the range. They come with a molded cable grip at the bottom of the antenna, and was wondering about hitting it with the heat gun and popping it out and just solder straight onto the antenna some rg6 or leave a foot of the cheap stuff and connect the rg6 to it.
The other option would be, cut back the cheap cable to a couple of feet long and put a weatherproof box on my roof with the pi and dongle in. My current range is typically 98 NM.

Late reply...def go with the box on roof. Send a POE cable up to it. Eliminates signal-degrading cable runs.

Thanks for your reply vann, I shortened the airnav coax back to a few feet, and tried it, but it was still poor, so I got a nooelec antenna, the 7 db one put 3 feet or rg6 on and hooked it onto the pi. I mounted the pi on the roof in a plastic ammo case, along with the antenna.
My range has now gone to a max range of 153 NM, and an average of 115 NM. Good enough for now
