Hi everyone,

I am new to aviation monitoring. *I had a question in regards to hardware and airplane tracking.

If I got a SBS receiver/ decoder and antenna, would it show and capture all *aircrafts in my*listening area, including aircraft with blocked tail numbers? *

I understand that traditional internet based/ online radar systems will not display aircraft with blocked tail numbers, but will the information captured locally on my own hardware and receiver display all airplanes in my listening/ receiving area including airplanes with tail numbers that are blocked on online radar systems?

I can't seem to find this information anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

SBS will capture ALL Mode-S equipped aircraft.

SBS Receiver can send Multilateration to software like PlanePlotter to show other aircraft.
Multilateration is commonly used in civil and military surveillance applications to accurately locate an aircraft by measuring the "Time Difference of Arrival" (TDOA) of a signal from the emitter at three or more receiver sites.

(Another person can go into more details about the Multilateration part. Since I don't use that feature)

You can see the list of daily logs of Mode-S equipped aircraft on this yahoogroup

Some of those "Blocked Aircraft" can be found on sites like FlightRadar24.com or PlaneFinder.net using the received ADS-B data.
WebTrak using their own network to pick up aircraft data WebTrak
