I have a private feed online for air operations over Broome and surrounding counties including the Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM).

It usually streams some of the local Military Air frequencies also.
But until the air show is over, I've locked out the MilAir frequencies.

I've had it online for a few years for my own use and was wondering if there's any general interest in air listening.

My private feed is:
Broome Private-5 Local Air
2014 Greater Binghamton Airshow Live Feed

You can plug that URL into your favorite streaming player. WINAMP etc.

If there's enough interest, I can move it up to Broadcastify.

"The 2014 Airshow will be held July 4th and 5th at the Greater Binghamton Airport. It will feature the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team, an astonishing 11 ship aerobatic team known as Team AeroDynamix, Historical War Birds from yesteryear and several aerobatic performers who will showcase unbelievable maneuvers with their high performance aircraft.

This year’s event also represents the return of a “Night Airshow”. On July 4th, the air show will begin in the evening and continue into the night. In a unique airshow experience, some of the aircraft have been modified to carry and launch fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices which will light up the night-time skies. Following the night aerobatic performances, a spectacular fireworks display will close out the evening.

Saturday’s airshow will be a traditional airshow that will be held during the daytime."

Thanks for the info Rich! :)

I haven't been to one in years.

I think I'll try and get down to that. Sounds cool!

One question though, why are you locking out the milair during the show...?

I'm planning to stream just the air show related frequencies.
Some of them are MilAir and those will be on the feed.

I have several hundred other MilAir frequencies that I normally stream but I didn't want to miss air show activity by scanning so many other unrelated MilAir frequencies.
Those are being scanned now, but I'll lock them out on Friday.

Also, if anyone has suggestions for frequencies that I should add to the feed, I'd be glad to hear them.

By the way, there's a problem with no-ip.org today.

I've used that service for 10 years or more and never had a problem.
I don't have a static IP address and it does change occasionally.

HOWEVER ................. no-ip.org has problems right now. (See below)

In the meantime, you can use this direct URL to access the feed.

I normally use no-ip.org for all of my private feeds, but .....................
This is what I found this morning!

"No-IP’s Formal Statement on Microsoft Takedown

June 30, 2014

We want to update all our loyal customers about the service outages that many of you are experiencing today. It is not a technical issue.

This morning, Microsoft served a federal court order and seized 22 of our most commonly used domains because they claimed that some of the subdomains have been abused by creators of malware. We were very surprised by this. We have a long history of proactively working with other companies when cases of alleged malicious activity have been reported to us.

Unfortunately, Microsoft never contacted us or asked us to block any subdomains, even though we have an open line of communication with Microsoft corporate executives.

We have been in contact with Microsoft today. They claim that their intent is to only filter out the known bad hostnames in each seized domain, while continuing to allow the good hostnames to resolve. However, this is not happening.

Apparently, the Microsoft infrastructure is not able to handle the billions of queries from our customers. Millions of innocent users are experiencing outages to their services because of Microsoft’s attempt to remediate hostnames associated with a few bad actors.

Had Microsoft contacted us, we could and would have taken immediate action. Microsoft now claims that it just wants to get us to clean up our act, but its draconian actions have affected millions of innocent Internet users."

An update.

The air show participants have been arriving and flying over the area all morning.
There's almost constant chatter on the BGM frequencies.

In past years, they would do practice runs late in the afternoon.

Thanks Rich.

Are those the regular Binghamton airport frequencies you're referring to?

I'd like to see if I can get them on my scanner...

Sorry for the the delay.
Today was my day to do yard work. ;)

Yes, mostly 118.6, 119.3, 121.9, and 125.05.

I'm also scanning the Broome security and special event frequencies.

Here are the BGM frequencies.

No biggie Rich, thanks for the info.

On a side note, you said you don't have a feed on RR? Just your own private site or something...?

I do have a feed on Broadcastify.
You can click on the 'Audio Feed Provider' icon at the top of my post.
Or here: Binghamton, Broome, Tioga, and Susquehanna Counties Public Safety

It covers all Broome County, Tioga County, and Susquehanna County in PA.
It's in the top 50 most hours of most days.

I typically run 9 or 10 private feeds depending on needs or requests at any given time.
I log all of them and more.

I'm running 11 computers and 40 scanners 24 x 7.
And lots of terabytes of hard drives for logging purposes. ;)

By the way, I'm always open to suggestions.

Rich

Here are several of my other feeds.
The local feed 'Private-2' Covers Broome and Chenango County dispatch frequencies.

Broome Private-1 All Broome County - (98)
Broome Private-1 All Broome County

Broome Private-2 Local - (00)
Broome Private-2 Local

Broome Private-3 Cortland Co P25 - (79)
Broome Private-3 Cortland Co P25

Broome Private-4 Tioga County - (76)
Broome Private-4 Tioga County

Broome Private-5 Local Air & MilAir - (60L,62B)
Broome Private-5 Local Air & MilAir

Broome Private-6 Binghamton, Johnson City - (85,43)

Ok Rich, no problem

I was just making sure I wasn't missing something, or looking it up wrong.

I guess my unit isn't going to pull that air traffic in from home. I did get some traffic on the 118, but I'm guessing that was probably from other local ports. I kept getting "1 Uniform Papa" transmissions, don't know what that is.

The airport transmitters are relatively low power. I haven't looked it up recently but around 25 watts comes to mind.

So, you probably won't hear the ground side of the activity.
But the aircraft side would be loud and clear for much further.

I'm maybe 16 miles LOS from the airport and the ATIS signal on 128.150 can be noisy on anything but my outside antennas.

Rich

By the way, the '1 Uniform Papa' may have been the last few characters of the aircraft ID.
That's how they identify after using their full identification on the first transmission.

Ahh, I see, thanks.

Apparently my ST2 is in a void. It should be doing a LOT more than it is. Unfortunately, it's in the best location I can get it at this time, but at least it's outside on the roof.

Well, I'm planning on heading down this evening for the show, any tips for me? ;)

Yep!
Have fun, stay dry, and take note of any frequency info you find. ;)

I haven't been there for years so I can't offer much information.
I heard them talking on the radio about rehearsal flights this afternoon.
I hope the weather cooperates.
I can usually see the air activity from my place once they get some altitude.
In past years my wife and I have sat outside with a glass of wine and watched the 'pre-show'. ;)

Practice activity happening now on 123.475 Mhz

Rich

Edit: I heard them mention that they will be closing the airport for 2 hours starting at 1:00 for the rehearsal flights.

Luck you, that's awesome!

I think the wine might be the best tip! ;)

I was going to see if there was an area to park at, like the mall or something but I'm not that familiar with it so I might as well just go to it. I'd probably get more irritated trying to figure that out than getting into the inevitable traffic situation... well, maybe not. ;)

I don't know if they'll allow parking along the roads this year.
Some years they allow it, some years they don't.

If you can park along the roads, it usually gets crowded fast.

Here is a good location to look for.
It's across a small valley from the airport so you have a clear view of the aircraft.

Back when the F-117 stealth fighter was first made public, one of the pilots was able to put on a 'private air show' for his family and friends in the area.

I watched from that location and it was terrific.

You can listen to airport Emergency Services on 453.875 MHz 100.0 PL, they're the ones controlling access and setup.

And the show web page may help.

Rich

This is on West Chenango Road.
Easy to reach from Rte 81.
Not too far from Green Brother's Apple Hills if you're familiar with that.

I'm not familiar with that but it looks easy enough.

I'll probably just go to the show anyway Rich but thanks for the info, much appreciated.

I don't think my co-pilot will be up for that much adventure. ;)

I'm getting some more activity on the 122.95 and 127.55 now. Would that only be the BGM comms or could it be from other users?

I just loaded the air channels into my 800 and set them to record, but a question on the rest of the Broome frequencies... are most of them still in use? I think I have the whole Broome DB loaded.

I know most of the "normal/regular" main channels are good but curious if the "peripheral" type town fire channels/TAC's etc are just wasting space...?

Thanks

The TAC channels are very rarely used.
Most of the other frequencies are still good.

However, Endicott & Endwell Fire are now on the Western Broome fire repeater as shown on the database page.
Broome County, New York (NY) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

More than likely, comms on 127.55 are from BGM but since 122.95 is a Unicom channel, you may be hearing other locations. (for example, 122.95 is also used in Albany.

Rich

These are the currently, most active frequencies at the airport.
118.600 BGM - Approach 0-5000'
119.300 BGM - Tower
121.900 BGM - Ground Control
122.950 BGM - BGM Unicom
124.875 Golden Knights
124.875 Common AirShow
125.050 BGM - Clearance
127.550 BGM - Approach 6-8000'
453.875 Broome - Security F1
