Thank you for your input but I use squelch all the time on HF. Works great on sideband voice. I can monitor a channel until something breaks the squelch without the constant noise.
Usually now with any significant static. What state are you in and what receiver?

Simon Brown's SDR Console is my favorite program to drive my Airspy Discovery. It is an awesome piece of software.
I also have SDR# which is nice. But I prefer SDR Console. It's epic!

How is the audio and performance for you in SDR Console? For me Sdr# is way more better than console.
I think my laptop-discovery-console combination is bad. The sound in console is on no or weak signals like you are on a very busy shooting range with crackle, pops and bangs. Also the NR is either too little or too much or no effect at all. Almost impossible to find the sweet spot. Then it has some design issues that I do not like but that is higly subjective I think...

So for me SDR# is outstanding. Clean audio and easy to find the sweet spot on NR.

The audio gets weird if there is not enough processing power on your PC. The display resolution in console
can be varied and setting it lower may help you. I find the NR and Audio are excellent.
SDR# does not use as much PC power as console does...that is potentially what your seeing.

I am using an intel I7-7700 quad core @ 3.6ghz with 16 gig of RAM

I have an 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7 Quad Core @ 2.80GHz and 16 GB Ram so that is near yours.
Last time I tested SDR# used more cpu power than console. It must be something with console that my laptop does not like.
Seems that I stick with SDR#. I don´t really need all the extras in console. On HF I listen to BC stations and rarely hams and utillity and locally just old voice transmissions and no digital and that. Also find SDR# more easy to use and it have some features that console lacks that I like.

I realized I omitted something very important. I have a video card capable of 4k at 30hz. Console uses it to drive the waterfall.
A lesser video capability could be an issue since it takes some processor power to render.
