Hey Guys,
I am having trouble programming the AL DPS Trunked Frequencies into my BCT 8. Alabama isn't using P-25 yet or are they? This would explain my problem. But of course, I think it is just my programming ignorance that is the problem, :)
If any of you can give me the protocol, I would appreciate it very much...... Mark P.

Thanks, Guys!
I thought I had the CC programmed right, just didn't know that the system was now defunct. Are they still using the portables on EDACS or are they all Southern Linc now? Also, is the EDACS system still in use on other parts of the state?

The one in Mobile has never been excluseively for AL DPS . It has about 12 talkgroups on it they can use but it's used for Mobile County's activities. I have been lazy and haven't updated this in the Database but I'll get it done today.

DPS uses 800Mhz HTs with a vehicle repeater (aka mobile extender) that repeats the 800Mhz transmission from the HT to the VHF radio in the car.

In the Montgomery area, i've heard (and seen on Unitrunker) Troopers communicating with the Montgomery SO on the SO's dispatch talkgroup. So, at least some of the Troopers have the capability to switch over to the local EDACS system. It wouldn't suprise me if the NSPAC 800Mhz frequencies were also programmed into their HTs as well.

Also, is the EDACS system still in use on other parts of the state?

It was shut down in Montgomery, and the frequencies folded into the Montgomery City-County EDACS system.

Since Alabama doesn't have a well developed 800MHz plan, these frequencies will probably not come into play as often as in other areas. However, these and all interoperability frequencies should be programmed in the event of a disaster to which a large number of agencies from outside the area will respond.

One of my handheld scanners has two banks of nothing but interoperability frequencies. I don't keep them active on a regular basis and hope that I never have to listen to them from my home (or what's left of it)!

Agencies and personnel might sneak to them for covert communcations from time to time, but I would hope that they undestand the true use for these channels.

I have another question. How much of the Jefferson County System is P-25. I can hear the transit talk groups and some of the utilities groups. I am not having much luck with the 3 channels of sheriff talkgroups. Are they P-25?

Notes -

LE - Law Enforcement
IR - Incident Response
The rest you probably know.

While I have banks programed for FRS, MURS, low power, etc, I include the selected ones above in the interops bank(s) for their encouraged or known use. Same with air/mil freqs.

Programming inputs is just a thing with me. Knowing how close to you a radio user is may be useful.

The US Gov Common frequencies are used by several federal agencies in various interop configurations.

National Interagency Fire Center frequencies should be considered as well.

Feel free fine tune the list and post here!
