Just a shameless little plug here, hope you don't mind...

Alabama ARRL Section Public Information Coordinator Ed Tyler, N4EDT, (right) recently created the “Pen & Key” award to be given to the Public Information Officer in the Alabama Section who uses print, radio, TV and “social media“ most effectively. The winner of this award was announced in August at the Huntsville Hamfest and the winner was Tracy A Stephens, KI4OZG, (left) who is the PIO for the Calhoun County Amateur Radio Association in Anniston, AL. Tracy also serves as the PIO for the KD4CAL - Calhoun Co. (AL) ARES/RACES and the Electronic Media PIO for the Alabama ARRL Section.

Tracy was unable to attend the Huntsville Hanfest to accept the award in person so it was accepted on his behalf by Peggy Wilhoite, KM4MPW, president of the Calhoun County Amateur Radio Association. However Ed Tyler made a special appearance at the CCARA’s club meeting on Saturday September 14, 2013 to present it to Tracy in front of his fellow club members. Ed first talked about the duties and responsibilities of a PIO and then he commented on how Tracy quickly accepted the challenge of becoming the Electronic Media PIO for the Alabama ARRL Section. He then asked Tracy to step up to the front of the room and handed him the award.

Tracy thanked Ed and the club members for giving him the opportunity to serve as a PIO and said that none of it would have been possible without their continued support. He said he felt very honored and privileged to win such a beautiful and prestigious award. It is his wish that other PIOs across the state of Alabama will one day be the recipient of this award for their efforts in continuing to support and sharing the hobby of amateur radio
