Hi, I'm new to these forums. I have an old Uniden BC45XLT that my BIL gave me several years ago. Lately I can no longer receive anything from the area I normally listen in Jefferson county. Would buying a digital receiver help? Or is everything now encrypted? I have a very tiny budget, must be a handheld under $150. Any help is appreciated.

bham & Jeffco are Digital. you may be able to find a digital Radio shack scanner Pro 197/106 (handheld or a PSR 500 handheld for around $350 . goto top of page & under RR database goto AL the Jeffco & look around. any othe?'s could be answer better in the Alabama forms on down the page here. Leeds seems to e conventional. I do not see Moody even listed Jefferson County, Alabama (AL) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference give a lil bit someone will chi,e in & give more info
