I found and purchased 3 Motorola MT1000 radios on Ebay (<<Ebay Link) the other day.
They grabbed my attention because the faces on the radios say:
ALA.PWR.CO. on all of them
2 of the 3 have KA83052 Engraved in them (along with what I assume are unit numbers or asset IDs like ED46, ED7, and A1264)
here is the thing, KA83502 is the FCC Callsign associated with the frequencies in these radios and it is still active
FCC Callsign KA83502

They are all H44GCU7100BN
16Ch UHF Models and it appears they all still have the original Power Co Frequencies in them

Does anyone know if these frequencies are still active? (I Seriously Doubt it since SoCo owns SouthernLinc and have been using that for years) Maybe Backup?
What puzzles me is that this license is still active. and the FCC listing says these are all simplex frequencies, (No FB2) so I guess the first 7 channels are unit to base only, and, when looking at the License listing, all of the frequencies repeat, just licensed to different locations, so I assume even though my radios' tags say Anniston, Gadsden, etc. they could work anywhere.

Just a little interesting thing I discovered the other day. Thought I would Share.

Would also like to know, can not find Al Power any where and I have the 436.

Those radios are the old UHF radios that were used prior to Alabama Power using Southern LINC. The reason you are seeing the License still active is because these frequencies are still used in the Gen Plants and Hydro Dams. I’m retired from the the Southern Company and was also a construction manager for LINC back in day.

Surprised the radios still had the freqs and info in them. Usually the shop wipes them clean before selling the radio(s). Wonder if Gadsden is in FL side?
