1st let me say i hope not to offend any one

.here is my question why is the dps spending money on these radios i understand that they are for the saftey of troopers i have no problem with that.
but why buy edacs radios with the state edacs system going by the way side i mean every where i read the freqs are being folded into other systems.the freqs for the mobile extender is not assinged as an edacs freq come on dps. i done some checking around it seems that there are still a few edacs sytems in use but not many. why not buy another brand. i would be willing to bet my unborn child that they will have trouble out of the edacs radios within 1 year after they have implemented they new radios.now in all aspects can anyone name a working state edacs site i can only think of one and that is mobile county

I heard they were getting P7100s. Those radios can operate on analog EDACS, ProVoice or conventional analog operation.

I don't know if they can toggle between analog conventional or EDACS trunking, but if those radios can, i'll bet that the local EDACS system in the area will be programmed in as well as the mobile extender and the NSPAC frequencies.

I agree with medic9351301, the EDCAS system here in Morgan County has been abandoned by the
state and only a few agencies use it for primary voice (Decatur Fire & EMS, Priceville & Trinity PD)
and Priceville PD often has to switch to the County VHF or use Southern-Linc because of poor coverage & no interoperability with other agencies. The system does handle MDT traffic for Decatur
PD and I suspect the Sheriff's Dept. & Hartselle PD. as well but they have problems with poor coverage and system crashes.
My point is, EDACS won't provide better coverage in my area than the Troopers VHF system!

In other words expect Bama to iether go Provoice EDACS with a new statewide TRS built,.. or to go Sat Radio. :( There goes my dream of easy scanning for the entire SouthEast except of course FL.... Still... two out of the bunch aint so bad... We still got LA even when LATIE is online.. cause their will be a 700 ASTRO-25 capable scanner before long, AR (Already loading thier AWIN ASTRO-25), TN (Trying to get an ASTRO system in the works), MS (most likely from congressional chatter going ASTRO), NC (VIPER anyone?), GA (Slowly building its ASTRO system), and SC (Can we say Palmetto 800???.)
