Does anyone have the frequencies for the Alabama state troopers.

Montgomery & Opelika posts use
154.920 Base to Car & Car to Car
155.445 Car to Base
Jacksonville & Dothan use
158.790 Base to Car & Car to Car
159.030 Car to Base
Posts statewide use either one pair or the other.
A very few posts transmit on 155.505 Base to Car
I do not know what they would then use for a car to base.

National Law Enf Mutual Aid 155.475
Can't remember which pair Selma post uses, but you should
hear them from Montgomery.

In North Ala they use the same two pairs of frequencies used in the rest of the state.
Whenever I'm in a part of Ala I have not scanned before, I simply scan both pairs of frequencies. Then it is a matter of scanning the pair used by the post closest to you at that moment.
Also, a GREAT site for North Alabama in addition to this fine site....

Whenever I'm in a part of Ala I have not scanned before, I simply scan both pairs of frequencies. Then it is a matter of scanning the pair used by the post closest to you at that moment.

DPS mobile channel plan.
The three main channels to have programmed in a scanner are:
DPS 1: Base 158.790 / mobiles 159.030
DPS 2: Base 154.920 / mobiles 155.445
DPS 3: Base & mobiles 155.505
As long as you have these five frequencies programmed in you travels around Alabama, you will hear all DPS (AST) VHF traffic. DPS-3 is only used in the Grove Hill area north of Mobile and in the Quad*Cities Post are of northwest Alabama for dispatch. Other units around the state use it as a car to car sometimes.
Also of note;
DPS 5 158.790
DPS 6 154.920
are used for mobile to mobile traffic.
DPS 7 159.030
DPS 8 155.445
are programmed as monitor (receive only) channels to hear mobile traffic of DPS 1 & DPS 2.
Wonder about DPS 4? Used to be 155.475. Now 155.475 is labeled as NELE. Right now there is no channel programmed as DPS 4. And the State Net frequency of 155.010 is labeled as MUTL AID.
These channels are programmed the same in each of the eighteen banks available. These eighteen banks are Alpha tagged by post or field office area except one, WETH. WETH is programmed with the receive frequencies of all the NOAA weather broadcast channels. The remaining channels in each of the other seventeen banks are programmed for local agency channels for mutual aid.

A few years ago, Decatur State was in a pursuit and the dispatcher stated for units to switch to "battleground". I believe this was a repeater of some type, as I could then hear mobile units traffic as well on the regular 158.790 frequency.
I have only heard that one time.
I do know that Battleground Mountain in extreme north Cullman Co. is a tower location.
Are you familiar with this???

Some posts have two tower sites. Decatur is one. Both receive and transmit the same set of frequencies. I'll have to ask one of our radio engineers as I'm not familiar with the two tower concept. As I understand things, the cars actually don't have to do anything to "change" towers. The station (Decatur) chooses which tower it transmits on. For Decatur to tell the cars to switch baffles me. In the incident you monitored, when they switched, did you actually hear Decatur talking with the cars on 158.790. Perhaps if the cars were in a dead spot, they switched to channel 5 (158.790 car/car) and talked with each other and you were in range to hear that. Btw, the tower sites are generally called "North" & "South". Battleground is the south tower. No repeaters are used in the two tower concept. The only thing I can think of for the cars to have to switch would be tones to access each site. I've never heard Decatur tell a car to switch, but I have heard the cars tell Decatur to switch. Again, I'll ask an engineer and get back to you emcom.

I'm certain that it was repeated radio traffic. The units were 10-100 in Morgan Co. and I could hear them talking on 158.790 and they referred to it as the "Battleground".
I am in Madison Co. - eastern side at that. I am not close enough to hear the Morgan Co. mobiles on an indoor scanner normally.
I thought it might have been some type of tactical repeater that they had the ability to switch to for certain events.
It was weird, to say the least!
