Does anyone know if Alamo Area Regional Radio System (AARRS) is already active?

Portions of it are being used as patches to the EDACS system and have been since its was SAUA before they added the new sites to form AARRS. Ive seen more frequent patches on the PS talkgroups for SAFD, SAPD and some Bexar County, but nothing super consistent. The most patched public Safety talkgroup I’ve found is SAFD Alert on the Toeppwein site.

I would love to start logging activity, but for some reason an not able to get a strong enough signal on the Toepperwein site here in New Braunfels on my logging radio or my SDRs. Comes in loud and glare on my Unication though🤷🏼‍♂️

I put my 536HP in discovery mode on the site at IH10/Fair Oaks Pkwy. It looks like they have turned on a control channel. As of last week it would not lock onto the site, however the signal meter would come and go. IMG-7327.jpgIMG-7327.jpg

I can clearly hear three or four of the "old" sites which are operating as they did when called SAUAI. And, as far as I can tell, the TXDOT H.E.R.O. operations were on the "old" system (i.e. SAUAI) and remain on the supposedly reconstituted AARRS. As far as I can tell the HERO operation is the only agency running "natively" on the AARRS ....that is they run only on that system and not the EDACS system. Everything else I hear on AARRS appears to be patched over from EDACS. I can also hear the "new" AARRS sites that have been added in the last few months and can see control channels active from time to time. However, I see no voice activity yet on the "new" sites. Probably testing going on that I have missed.

EDACS ProVoice is probably the worst system imaginable and the City/County should have bought Motorola...as I recall they were the only other capable bidder. I think they gave up trying to balance the voice years ago and the consistency of signals is terrible. This is the same system (different version/vendor name) Dallas bought for DFD but they were smart enough to boot them out before going live. I really look forward to AARRS going live but I also worry about encryption. Given the public outcry for accountability of police it is hard to believe they could get away with it with the possible exception of active SWAT operations. I guess we will see. If not, I find some of the other stuff interesting to listen to so it is what it is.

Looks like site 6 on Fredericksburg road is up. I was sitting in a parking lot very near the site with no antenna attached to my scanner and caught the CC in search mode. I created a TDMA system and was able to hear testing on TG 64053 with radio ID of 9980061. I also put my 436 in discovery mode, is there anything that would be saved in that to show system information or do I have to decode it with software.

I am hearing constant repeating sounds coming from System ID D2 WACN: 91F78 NAC: 1E. I assume this is the Fred site. I have the Northwest simulcast CC (Started with Control Channel: 852.150000 MHz) entered in my trunk-recorder setup. Not being familiar with how testing goes on new sites/systems, is this just noise to test the site?
