From CSP:

On February 5, 2009 at approximately 11:30pm, a Colorado State Trooper made contact with what was believed to be a motorist in need of assistance on US 160 approximately 9 miles east of Alamosa. During the contact, the trooper began to suspect that the driver might be intoxicated and also observed several large knives in the vehicle.

Assisted by a deputy with the Alamosa County Sheriff's Department, the officers attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle. Following a brief altercation the suspect fled from police eastbound on US 160. Pursuit of the suspect continued to the area of Highway 159 when the suspect lost control of his vehicle, a full-sized Ford pickup, by spinning off the right side of the road.

Officers from CSP, Alamosa and Costilla County Sheriff's Departments attempted to once again take the suspect into custody. The suspect began using his vehicle to repeatedly ram police cars, narrowly missing the involved officers. Sheriff's deputies fired at the suspect who then fled southbound on Highway 159.

Members of the New Mexico State Police as well as the Taos County Sheriff's Department then assisted by deploying tire deflation devices in a further attempt to stop the vehicle. The suspect continued for a distance on deflated tires before driving off of the highway into a ditch. A New Mexico State Police Officer fired at the driver of the pickup striking him in the left arm. The suspect was airlifted to a hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he remains in stable condition.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the shooting incident that occurred in Colorado. All involved agencies are continuing to work with CBI as the investigation continues. The Colorado State Patrol is not releasing suspect information at this time but is able to identify him as a 25 year-old male from Blanca, Colorado. Charges are pending at this hour.
