As of this morning at 10:30AM, Guilderland dispatch has started to use new radio IDs. Previously, the radio IDs used by the dispatchers for Guilderland PD, Fire, and EMS was 13088801, 13080004, 13080005, yada yada you get the point. As of 10:30AM today, the radio IDs used by the dispatchers are 480, 482, and more 48x numbers that I haven't logged yet.

Does anyone know why they've changed radio ID numbers? Change in system?

Things I have noticed:

1. The Albany County Sheriff Dispatch Center uses 452, 453, 454, 455, yada yada you get the point, and now Guilderland is using 480 numbers. Does this have any correlation between the 2 agencies?

2. They have started doing patch calls which is new! They just did a call that was patched to 2 talkgroups.

3. The dispatchers sound worse, they keep asking the units for radio checks and they say they're fixing it but they still sound bad. I'll upload some calls from before and after the change.

4. Tones for calls sound a little different, I'll attach 2 audio recordings of tones before and after.

Maybe Guilderland dispatch is merging with the County.
I think that they are syncing up with ACSO for whatever reason. I listen to the Alb/Sch P25 all day.
That’s probably the reason. For the first time last night, I heard the dispatcher ask the paramedic supervisor, “I was monitoring the county channel and heard that they’re looking for a standby, can we do that?” So they’re definitely linked with the county somehow. It makes me wonder what else they can do with their new system, so far I’ve seen patch calls, slightly new tones, and the ability to listen to county channels.

I feel like they are trying to optimize interoperability. The ACSO has their hands in pretty much everything and Guilderland is in a very unique position geographically to go MA for pretty much anywhere in Schenectady and anywhere on the hill. So, it sort of makes sense to link them into the county system and get them in the loop with everyone. But the PD is different, but I see that as just being a part that can't be excluded in the transition. By the way, my reception varies from here in downtown Albany, but I hear Fire Control just fine.

Guilderland is already on "the county system". They might be moving dispatch to the County's PSAP. Or they could have just had new numbers reassigned for better compatibility with surrounding agency numbering. When Menands PD dispatch moved to the County, their mobiles were assigned new RIDs. The dispatch office in the village no longer dispatches police calls. The County took over that function and added them to COUNTY LAW 2. Guilderland seems too large to absorb in that way, so they will probably stay in their current physical location.

Comments re Guilderland's plans are speculation based on observation. "Inside" confirmation or clarification is welcome.
