Unication

Monitoring the Albany Co system great up here in Saratoga County. I became frustrated with the multicast problems with the scanners that are currently on the market. Bought myself a Unication G4 P25 trunking scanning "pager" This thing is easy to program with the free software and included cable. I had it clipped to the visor of the Jeep and was able to monitor Saratoga County on a drive up to Granville, down to Hoosick Falls and around Sacandaga Lake I work in downtown Albany and I can receive Saratoga County sitting at my desk. They have figured out the problem with multicast. I dare say it receives as well as the Motorola XTS5000 800 P25 portable I have. Does anybody else have one ?

Where are those group designators coming from? I have only heard someone refer to 11003 by name, and they called it "Law 2".

Sorry those are my tags to help me figure out what is what, the only one I heard designated was the fire ops channel yesterday they told someone to goto the ops channel then that's the channel that they finished their conversation on. The others such as traffic I may have heard a traffic stop and license check
have about 12 more hits yesterday not sure what they are,I wasn't able to monitor them at the time.
Some I have cross referenced on the database like radio repair,
Once again sorry was just trying to help,

No need to apologize. It might have been helpful to state that up front. :)

The "fire ops" channel you found belongs to Cohoes.

Thank you DaveNF2G

Think 10726 DGS-WATER - 01 belongs with TROY FD WATERVLIET
Might have copied wrong.

I think you're right. There are consistent patterns in TGID assignments.

BTW, Cohoes, Green Island and Watervliet FDs are now being toned out and dispatched on FIRE 1.

Thank you again,
I really don't know that much about Watervliet Cohoes or Green Island,I'll basically be tracking the new TGID's and the Albany City groups that switch over.Right now being Water.
I may be wrong but I think the DGS-WATER may be water dept talking to albany pd and fd.Wasn't able to catch if they were affiliated or not.
Was at the fire in Albany the other day and the water dept was on the scene.

Confirmation of 62XX units

Interesting that you heard 7600 units on Cohoes PD VHF because from the traffic I've been hearing, I would have thought 7600 units were Green Island and 6200 were Cohoes. I have heard a lot more traffic from 6200 units going on calls that appear to be in the City of Cohoes. I barely hear many 7600 unit and based on the size of Green Island I would have assumed that was why. I certainly could be wrong though. I'll have to keep an ear out for more 7600 units.

As far as RIDs go, they appear to be lining up somewhat with unit numbers. For example unit 6210's mobile appear to be 13066210 and their portable appear to be 130663xx but those do no line up with the unit numbers. My guess is that the portable is assigned to the officer and not the unit which is what a lot of other places do as well. 9800 units appear to be 130998xx and their portables appear to be 130991xx and 130990xx. Again the mobiles appear to match where the portables do not. I have not heard enough 7600 units to say for sure if they match but the few I have heard did match.

Another interesting note is that serveral times I have heard 6200 units and 9800 units refer to "Channel 3" and "The TAC Channel" and then they switch to an encrypted TG that appears to be specific to that agency. Initially this would appear as though each agency is getting it's own encrypted TG but it may be to early to say that for sure. We'll have to see as other agencies join on, how that pans out. Besides the previous comment about Cohoes FD switching next week, has anyone else heard anything about timeline for other agencies? The only other thing I heard was that ACSO would be last.

I can confirm that the 62xx units are from the city of Cohoes. This lines up with their old numbers for the units, as well as the original unit license plates. As I recall from the old analog frequencies, all unit number were 2XX. now I am hearing 62xx with references to locations within the city of Cohoes. Additionally, the license plates (so far) have not changed.

I goofed on the fire talkgroup comment above.

Cohoes, Green Island and Watervliet are being dispatched and operating on FIRE 2, which was patched to 460.100 until everybody involved had 800 MHz radios.

Hill Towns (everybody on 154.415) is patched to FIRE 1.

The three PDs for the above mentioned municipalities are operating on LAW 2, which is (or was) patched to the original channels.

Sheriff (159.360) and Coeymans-Ravena (154.740) are patched to LAW 1.

For clarity:

LAW 1 is 10003
LAW 2 is 11003
FIRE 1 is 10702
FIRE 2 is 11702

So, reading all the prior posts suggests that all Public Safety comms in the county will eventually be P25. Is that essentially correct? It would also appear that this system will be Phase 1? Completion of the transition, I would think, should take several years considering all the communities involved, and their individual budgetary requirements. Is there any rough timetable to this conversion?
