Albertville Police and Fire do not use any of the UHF or VHF frequencies that are licensed to them. These frequencies were abandoned once they moved to the 800 MHz radio system in 1997. They do not have any UHF mobile radios or portable radios in use. The weather sirens are activated over the old VHF fire frequency, 154.445. Police and fire personnel also utilize Nextel.

The city is in Marshall county in the north east part of the state.I think the city has gone digital. my 2 bct-15's bct-8 and a radio shack 2051 will no longer pick them up. There was talk a few months ago in the local paper that the city would get new radios with the help from nextel to pay for most of the cost. I guess I'm looking at more $$$ to get a new scanner.

Albertville Police and Fire are on the analog Motorola system AlabamaRS listed above. They use the control channel of 858.7625. I have not heard of them going to a new digital system.

They've gone.......

Yes, they have gone digital. I had them working for a bit on a pro-96 last night but it crashed in the middle of the night. I've yet to get the bcd996t to get it. Trying to figure out the parameters for the rebanding.

Does anyone have any information?

That explains why I thought they were still analog (I knew I heard traffic on there last week). I was back in the Albertville area today and there was nothing on the old system.

I did find a frequency (855.8875) using the "Fine Tune Mode" on my PRO-97. I entered it as a Motorola system and it would stop on it and provide a talkgroup number, but only noise (I am assuming this is what happens with a digital system in an analog scanner). When I got home and checked the FCC database the freq and 9 others were liscensed to the City of Albertville with the callsign of WPJL979. Maybe someone with a digital scanner can check this out.

Albertville went digital and rebanded at the same time.

Albertville Police Dispatch now shows as 16016
Albertville Fire Dispatch is 16336

Trunking

I'm getting them partially on a Pro-96 and a BCD996T. I believe some trunking tables will need to be updated, but not sure what they are.

The new frequencies for the Albertville system are as follows:

856.7625
855.8375
854.8375
853.3000
851.3250

Also, I have posted a thread under the Scanner Models Discussion forum about this system and the trunk tracking issues associated with it and the BCD396T and the PRO-96 that I have experienced.

Darrell:

I read your post about the 396T, and I was wondering if you had tried to track the Albertville system with a PRO-96 yet? As far as I can tell, this is the first operational rebanded Motorola system around here.

With Radio Shack being somewhat coy about the PRO-96 and rebanding, this is an opportunity to see if this system can be followed by manually programming rebanded trunking tables into a PRO-96/2096.

I got these tables for a rebanded 800 Mhz Motorola system a couple of years ago, but haven't had a chance to try them:

BASE OFFSET STEP
851.03750 002 12.5k
851.53750 040 12.5k
852.03750 078 12.5k
852.53750 116 12.5k
853.03750 154 12.5k
854.01250 231 25.0k

Take care,

Warren

Warren,

I have tried to track the system on a PRO-96. A friend of mine has one and he tried everything with it just like I have the 396. It did the very same thing as the 396. The unusual thing with the PRO-96 is that when there is voice being transmitted on 851.3250 and 853.3000, it displays a frequency beginning with 862 but no voice. The 396 does not show either frequency when there is voice on them. I am not sure if he tried the table. I believe that he tried them with no success.

I am not using UniTrunker or Trunker on the system. I do know anyone that has UniTrunker or Trunker.

Ok. That sounds like the control channel is telling the '96 to go to a certain channel, however the old channel numbers are different from the new channel numbers, hence the 862.xxxx frequency with no voice on it. The same thing will happen with an EDACS system if you have the LCNs and their associated frequencies wrong - the control channel will tell the radio to go to LCN x and when it goes to LCN x that you have programmed in your scanner, there will be no audio.

Supposedly, a custom 800 Mhz table will prevent that kind of problem.

I am not sure if he tried the table. I believe that he tried them with no success.
Can you find out for sure the next time you speak with your friend? If that custom table I posted doesn't work, and we can't get a custom table to work, then it means that the PRO-96 won't work with rebanded systems.

I've been pretty busy lately, but let me see if I can free up some time and work on a custom table from scratch.

Thanks,

Warren
