I'm glad the plane landed safely and everyone is okay.

I'm bummed that I wasn't listening to the radios at the time.

Can anyone point me to a list of Alerts and Level meanings? I've always wondered about that.

I don't know the levels but and Alert 2 is an in flight emergency, and an Alert 3 is used when an aircraft actually crashes. I'll try to find out what the levels are.

I guess I'd assme that the levels relate to the size of the aircraft and/or the number of passengers, but that's just a guess.

In general:

Alert 1 - Aircraft might have a problem. Emergency crews stand by in fire station or on ramp.

Alert 2 - Aircraft has a problem. Emergency crews set up a predetermined locations.

Alert 3 - Crash is imminent or has occurred.

The reference to "level 2" and so on may be a local thing. I work in public safety at an airport and have never heard those references.

One thing to keep in mind... pilots will almost never say the word "emergency" unless, I sometimes feel, the wings are falling off the aircraft. Even then it seems as though they usually say something along the lines of "we seem to have a little problem here..."

The "levels" are the number of passengers and crew. While I don't remember exact numbers here is a general list:

Level 1) 1-2 Souls
Level 2) 3-10
Level 3) 11-50
Level 4) 51-100
Level 5) 100+

If i can get in touch with someone I know at GSP I'll get the latest numbers.

So if a politician is flying his own plane solo, would that be a Level 0? :D
