To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am trying to put an alert tone on my UHF 450-512 Radios. Something that i can alert fire fighters on the fire ground of an important message. I would like to set it up on XTS radios and CDM. any suggestions on how to?

Thanks

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.6; en-us; DROID RAZR Build/6.5.1-167_DHD-14_M3-8) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

You could set up a selective call tone using a long a, b, or c tone of a higher frequency. Then send it the call function of the radio.

You can set up the XTS to put out a hi/low alert while you key up the radio and press the orange top button. I have this in my XTS5000, not sure if it works in other model XTS. This setting is in Radio Wide -> Advanced -> Evacuation Tone.

As far as the CDMs, I guess a 1000 hz long quick call tone could be used. In my department I set up mdc groups so command can alert all the radios for evacuations using a long press on P4 then keying the radio.

This does work in the XTS2500 as well.

The only way I can think of setting up an alert tone in a CDM is to create a Quik-Call Call member setting the format to Long Tone and the tone to 1000 Hz. Then you can program a button to Call Alert Member #x. The user would then press the button and key the radio to transmit the alert tone.
