Ms. HAL9000 uses the phrase "ALI" during non-medical dispatches, with some regularity. Does anyone know what "ALI" means?
TIA.

ANI

Automatic Number Identification corresponds to the subscriber's seven digit telephone number. The ANI displays at the PSAP on the digital ANI display console.

ALI

Automatic Location Identification provides for an address display of the subscriber calling 911. With ALI, the PSAP receives the ANI display and an ALI display on a screen. The ALI display includes the subscriber's address, community, state, type of service and if a business, the name of the business. The PSAP will also get a display of the associated ESN information (police, fire, rescue).

Wow!

I think we should check with Lindsay to see if this is a record: a detailed, responsive reply in THREE minutes!
Thanks, Karl.

I just took a dispatching center tour Wednesday where they explained various features on the call-taking/dispatching consoles. They also expressed their frustration at the number of people who had no idea where they were when they called 9-1-1.

And Now ... the Rest of the Story

With apologies to Paul Harvey for the header, here's a final note on my December query.
Chalk it up to my "senior" ears. What Samantha is saying is "AOI," not "ALI" as I originally thought. These recurring dispatches are for second-tier incidents such as snake removals, bees swarming and such. The responding units remain "Available On Incident."
Mystery belatedly solved....

The A deck talkgroups are encrypted on the RWC for Phoenix Fire. No idea why, but there you go... as for the VHF channels, you need to be pretty close to the scene to hear the units, but you should hear an occasional update from the alarm room as incidents progress. I would make sure any CTCSS or DCS tones are either set correctly or just turned off completely so you don't miss anything.

Of course, if you have an Android phone (shameless plug) my ActiveEMS app in the app store will help you keep tabs on what's going on as well. I also put out incident notifications on Twitter (right now, just weekdays from 730ish to 430ish, but soon full time again).

Welcome to the Valley! Enjoy your visit - and watch out, the drivers here are CRAZY.
