Hello I borrowed a friends for a few day & tested it against these Radios ICOM-R5,RADIO SHACK-PRO97,YAESU-VR500 with the same Antenna and it did not pick the signals like the other Radios then I hooked it up to an outdoor antenna and it was getting overloaded with strong signals & my last test was against its big brother the DJX2000E and that certainly wiped it out with reception.

Well , I bought one & have had it about 2 weeks , and I like mine. I replaced the stock antenna with a duel-band 2m/440 amateur duck. I use mine to wear on my belt when I go walking, I walk at least 2 miles a day for my heart. I recieve the local fire on VHF high , and the local PD on an 800MHz conventional channel , just fine. It seems to be sensitive on VHF/UHF. I live in a suburb of Kansas City , and so far I haven't heard any intermod or strong signal overload. I like the size of it , and everything on it is adjustable. The plastic belt clip has a metal spring on it which I like. I was thinking it just might make a good aircaft receiver , seeing that it covers the military air band. I don't know about anybody else but I'm keeping mine.........

I haven't tried it yet on Airband , BUT , it does ok on VHF , UHF , & 800MHz Public Safety Frequencies. I imagine it depends on what kindof rubber duck you use with it.

It's the size of a pack of cigarettes.

Now it's not going to perform like an Icom R-20 or an AOR-8200 , BUT , it's not meant to compete with them either.
For the price & size , I'd say it does what it's supposed to do.

The thing I think is neat abou the X-30 is that you have so many options. It's got 5 different scan speeds , You can use the earphone as an antenna. you can choose internal or external antenna for both AM Broadcast & Shortwave. You can have Lamp off , Lamp On , Lamp on for 5 seconds, Lamp on for received signal , or lamp off & RX light (on top of the radio) on.
It'll check the Priority Channel anywhere between 5 & 60 seconds YOU set it. Automatic Power Off of 30 , 60, or 90 minutes. Beep on or off , OR you can set a bell to sound when a signal is received. You can set the monitor key to either open the squelch OR mute the audio. You can set the battery charger to be on or off when using an AC adapter , YOU also can set the charging time anywhere from 1 to 24 hours depending on what type of batteries you're charging. When you press the function key yu can have it stay on anywhere from 5 to 25 seconds before the function goes off, or set it to stay on untill a key is pressed. You can assign any 1 key to be a "wildcard" say you want the 5 key to turn on the lamp, you can set it up that way. And you have the option of displaying the Frequency , the alpha tag you've given it , Both , or just the bank & channel number. You can program it via a PC , or clone it.

AND , you can buy an optional remote controller, that when hooked up to an MP3 player, you can listen to music untill the squelch opens on the DJ-X30, at which time it mutes the music & passes the audio from the X-30, and when the squelch closes it's back to music............

All this from a radio the size of a pack of King Size cigarettes.

I was looking at Alinco's website, and it looks like their are two different versions, one has a numerical keypad, and one doesn't. is this true?

CWR, which one do you have?

How is the audio using the internal speaker?

I'm attempting to locate a dealer that has them in stock; HRO is out.

without going back to look, I thought it was just a little cover plate to hide the keypad.

I have the DJ-X30T , which is what they sell here in the United States.

The Audio is Fine for me , I wear it on my belt when I'm doing my daily walk , and I don't use an earphone or anything. Now, at louder volumes it does seem to vibrate the case a little bit, but I've never had any problem understanding whats being said.

The Keypad unplugs (after you unscrew it) and you can then put the cover on. They also gve you 2 extra screws just in case you lose one.

IF you're one of these people that know exactly what you want to listen to , and only program the radio once , OR program only via software , you can then remove the keypad & replace it with the cover..............

That keypad option is nice!

Now, next and last question.

On the priority scan mode. The specs say that you can have up to 5 priorities in a scan list.

Have you tried this? If so, are you able to set one of the priorities as a primary, then set a secondary priority?

When I'm scanning, I have 2 fire freqs that I want to have as priority, but one is a higher priority than the other. If the secondary is talking, and traffic comes on the primary, I want the primary to override the secondary. Will the DJ-X30 do this? If so, then this is a radio I'm definately going to purchase.

I hope this makes sense.

On page 51 of the manual ,,,,,, It has what's called a Priority Monitoring Function , sorta like a "Duel Watch" on an amateur HT.

It also has a Priority Bank , that holds a 100 channels.

You can set how often it checks Priority Channels anywhere from 5 to 60 seconds.

You can also set how long it stays on the Priority Channel once it checks it , anywhere from 1 to 25 seconds.

I've still not used all the features , the radio is new for me & I'm still feeling my way around it............

I couldn't find any reference to this in the manual. Are you sure you're looking at the DJ-X30T and not the DJ-X3T ?

The Radio has 10 banks of 100 channels each for a total of 1,000 channels. I noticed that IF you use software to program the radio , you can have up to 50 banks of various sizes as long as you don't exceed 1,000 channels. But this is only available using a computer to program it.

Did I mention Reverse Tone Squelch.............
