Alinco: Alinco MD520T mod?

I'm looking to replace my Alinco DR-600T (separated control head and radio) and have looked at the MD520T. Can that rig be modified for "full" TX and RX?

It’s all done with the CPS these days. No special leaked factory only software. The radio seems to be a clone of the Anytone mobile radio with plenty of articles on how to get full coverage. But I don’t see the need since the receive is already “opened up”. This chart may help.

If you don't need 222 MHz, & can make do with a smaller contact list, there's the MD-500 model

It's also less expensive than the MD-520
