I cannot speak to their handhelds as I have yet to hold or test one.

I do have their 6m and a 220mHz mobiles. Both have performed exceptionally. In fact the 220 unit will make better and more stable contacts to a distant city's system better than my higher powered, higher gain 440 setup. I think this may be due more to the location of their 220 repeater.

I have heard my fellow hams discussing these radios on the air and have come to the conclusion that some of the Alinco radios may have a quirk or two (just like the other three makers' units) depending upon the environment they are in. But, they still get you on the air and that's what it's all about. Besides who else makes a 220 mobile?

Have a DJ-V5 and like it. Am not active in the hobby and use it mainly for scanning. Accessories are pricey as are all manufacturers. I started out with a DJ 560 and have had all major brands and returned to Alinco. Wish Standard and Azden had remained in business.

I've never played with any of their handhelds, but I've got an Alinco DR-605 dual bander, and TWO DX-70T HF radios.

The DR-605 has been rock solid. Even though there are some operational features I'm not wild about, it's always just worked, even though it's taken a beating. This is the radio I used for contest liaison when roving in in UHF and microwave contests. That's a ROUGH life for a radio.

The two HF rigs are both mobile - one in the personal car, one in the "company" car. Both are heavily used, both just work. They're simple to operate mobile, and have been reliable. The control heads leave a LOT to be desired, so far as "feel" is concerned, however. They're cheaply built, and feel flimsy. They ARE flimsy, so they get treated gently, and they're holding up ok.

So, in the end, Alinco radios are ok. They're cheaper than others, but you're getting a fair deal for your money.

Alinco HT Dj-175T

I have just received my first HT, the above noted Dj-175T. I am still figuring the thing out, but so far it is a solid radio. I will update with more when I get more accustomed to it.

Man, purchased my DJ-V5 this past weekend at a local hamfest. Love it! It is fairly easy to program, memory storage is easy, and the scanner feature is great! I've only had to use in on the low power settings with a couple of close local repeaters, but hoping to try it out on others shortly.

I like ALINCO, 1 vhf 2 mtr radio 8 or 9 years old still working great, 1 dx70t 5 years old works great.
I had years ago the 6 mtr fm xcvr, also no problems.

Alinco radios

I've owned a DJ-V5 for a few years now, & it's a great radio. I purchased mine in Canada when I was up there for my high school reunion, so it is an export version. 800 MHZ is wide open, but since cell freq's are now digital, it doesn't matter. However, coverage on VHF & UHF seems to go wider than a US version. Well built, loud RX audio, & great TX audio too. I don't use it much, as I also own a W-32, & T-90 which are easier to program, but it is the best working of all my Jap radios. GARY N4KVE
