• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

On October 14, 2005, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center suffered a power outage that left them with no phone system, CAD system or radio system. For approximately three hours, they were unable to answer their emergency 911 phone lines. During that time their emergency lines were forwarded to Orlando PD’s Communications Division so that calls could be answered. As a result, Orlando PD Communications employees were inundated with 585 additional 911 calls until Orange County personnel were able to get back in action.

No matter how much back up you have, sometimes all of the systems fail. It was a good thing that it was not exceptionally busy during that time. two hundred calls per hour over 911 is about average for the sheriff's office. Of course the Orlando Police communications had all of their own 911 and other calls to answer during that same time.

Awards were just presented to Orlando PD personnel that were on duty that day.

they went through 4 hurricanes in twoyears without losing it all. The problem took out UPS, generators and commercial power. Prior to my retirement we had the same problem and it was started by the UPS repairman doing routine maintenance. Don't know if it was the same this time.
