It might. Depends on the exact antenna. Not all cellular companies use the 800MHz band.

Won't hurt your radio to plug it in and give it a try.
I saw this antenna

I am a lineman for the county.
I saw this antenna

Unless you need the 1710-2700 frequency range, you'd do better with a single band antenna.

I just need 698-960, I might have a problem with a directional if I point it to the northwest would it pickup a site to the the east about 30 miles

if i got it right you want 851 to 862 as that would be the '800' band.
I saw one that was 851 to 869, but another site uses 773 mhz I don't see how that can Pametto 800 when some sites are in the 700s confusing

ok, so the two sites in your county are simulcast.
i would go the other way and get a radio that receives well on simulcast.
my county is on 700 and simulcast and we would actually get half a second and then nothing for half a second.
then we got a uniden SDS100 and now hear everything.
so if you could check out that site for the system and then get back to us, thanks.

also after reading that you get 1 to 2 bars and the radio won't decode, that is a sign of simulcast and more antenna will make it worse.
just like they have said. it would be best to ride to the towers and make sure you have things right and then try to figure out why you can't hear them. also many system point their antennas down now to avoid interference with other systems. so you might not get some with anything you buy. when i drive out of my county the signal disappears within 1 mile of the border.
