If i was traveling throughout the state and wanted all the statewide site/cell frequencies to catch troopers etc. would i have to program ALL the frequencies for each site or could i just program the CC'S for each site?

If you have a scanner with cc only mode, then all you ned is the cc's and alt cc's for each of the cells/sites that you will be travelling near. Then of course program in only the TG's for the individual LSP Patrol Troops you want to hear. If your scanner doesn't have CC Only modes, then yes you will have to program in all the freqs for each and every cell/site you travel near.

The newest scanners: RS PRO-96, and most of the newer trunkers from Uniden have a function called CC Only. Read your owner's manual and it will tell you if you have CC only mode.

Ok for all you other owners of the RS Pro-95 this scanner does not have CC only mode. I had already programmed ALL the frequencies from ALL the state sites. It took me 2 1/2 banks to program them all. I was just looking for an easier way to do it.

Win95 from starrsoft. This software would have made it a lot simpler. I recommend to anyone to firstly of course learn how to program your scanner manually so you learn your scanner,.. then get the software for mass programming, and for simplicity. Don's software is great,.. he has software for all the PC progammable RS scanners including the PRO-99.

Also, remember that you might be in areas that you can get multiple towers, and your scanner will only get the first cc it runs accross in each bank..... to be able to fully seperate the sites, youd need to put each into a seperate bank. With statewide systems like LA's and SC's this will take up a LOT of space. Doing the mass freq stuffing into 1, or two banks is highly ineffecient, but might work for you.... All you really need is the ones for the magor travel areas that you will be in.....unless of course you will be travelling to every single parish and town. EX: program in the I-55, I-10, I-20 cells for crossing the magor routes in LA,...

Yes i have Win95. Thats what i used. It is a GREAT program. It even took awhile just copying and pasting everything into the specfic banks and channels. I don't think i'd ever try to do that manually. Lol.

That is wrong. The pro-95 DOES have control channel only mode and it works great. The book does not go into the programming of CC's but it does mention in a few places that it supports it. I have mentioned in other topics that I just made a trip to Sacramento, CA and programed in only the CC's for both the sheriff and pd and I never missed a transmission.

Okay, if all you need is the Control Frequencies then why do systems have all those othjer frequencies programmed into them. Why don't they just use the Control Frequencies?

Not all scanners are capable of CC only mode in which case you need all the frequencies. When a scanner supports the CC only then it will take the information needed and automatically go to the correct frequency that is referred to by the control channel. It's a great tool for finding new systems in your area. Just do a regular search and when you come across a control channel program it into a open bank set to MOT and wait to see what pops up.

For ACTUAL trs systems.... the cc is just that, the source of info for all the radios to use for that system. Voice is carried on the other channels,...but for some scanners, they can just use the cc,.. and using the computer controlled internal logic, automatically follow the cc info to the voice freqs and you can follow the system. I am not an expert so i keep any explanations simple .. for a detailed explanation of trunking, there are many on here that could give you the complete info,.. and would prolly take about two to ten pages to do so.... And to really explain how a trunked network works takes a book.

This is what I found in the book for the PRO-95. I would assume it is the exact same for the Uniden scanners that support CC only.

Your PRO-95 automatically calculates Motorola voice channel frequencies when it decodes the control channel. This eliminates the need to enter all the Motorola group frequencies. The control channels are subject to change depending on the day. Therefore enter all the control
frequencies in the same bank. If you do not know which is the control channel, it is better to enter all the system frequencies into the
same bank

And for a multisite statewide trs Again I suggest putting each site/cell in a seperate bank for best performance....and I assume the 95 like the 94 can trunktrack and scan conventional at the same time....put the conventional stuff for each area in with the CC's for each area, that way you cover the TRS and conventional for the areas your covering....

I am not sure that I agree with this advice. For a single system and a CC mode scanner, it is better to put it in one bank.

Depending on the CC Only Mode radio you have, it will switch when the CC gets too weak to hold or it will scan through all of them anyway. Naturally, if you have an older scanner (that requires all channels to be entered) then putting seperate sites in seperate banks is the way to go; although, you can put more than one in a bank, just keep them geographically seperate so only one CC can be heard per bank at one time.

Ok this leads me to my next question. Next week i am traveling through central Louisiana up towards the Shreveport area. My question is can i preprogram some group id's for the Shreveport area in OPEN mode and when i have all the ones i want put that bank in closed mode? That way when i am traveling next week as i approach the Shreveport area the groups id's will have already been put in and i will be able to identify which agency(troop, shreveport p.d. etc.) it is?

Yes, just program the Shreveport system in a separate bank from the LA State TRS so that you can track them both.

You may wish to set up two banks for that area,.. Caddo parish Motorola Type II, and Bossier City Motorola Type II to get complete coverage, as well as the State System
