I had a client call from Allegan today wondering what happened to the fire paging. Have they switched to a new paging channel or something? I assume the en route traffic is on MPSCS.

All fire traffic (paging and normal traffic) has switched to the mpscs. Fire east and west on the vhf system is being maintained until the first of next year while departments transition. EMS and police have all ready switched over too.

Hello Everyone,

What is the Allegan Fire West paging talk group? Is it in the RadioReference database? Haven't heard anything on the analog for at least 2 weeks. Have heard some talk in the new digital system but no paging. Using FreeSCAN for programming. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

13385 is fire west. Each department is paged on a unique talkgroup. I can get those to you later.

Anyone have the EMS to Hospital talk groups? The one listed on the database appears to never be used.

Just my opinion but with the various radio systems in the Detroit area, MPSCS, DownRiver Wayne County & Open Sky in Oakland County its probably easier for the hospitals to have it called in by phone. Does anybody actually use the old VHF or UHF freqs anymore?

I just received some good information that Presque Isle County's EMS and fire departments will be switching over to the MPSCS by end of December, 2017. Any talkgroup submissions would be greatly appreciated.

Not receiving allegan system or Fennville state tower tonight. SOUTH HAVEN state tower is working and I here some Allegan county traffic on it. It sounds like they are just figuring out they have a problem. Fire pagers. Anyone have any info? I'm located in Fennville if that helps.

Allegan county is using the unication g5s. Feedback from everyone is mixed on the pagers. Last I heard Fenville and Saugatuck were happy with their pagers and 800 coverage. Every fire and ems department is paged on a unique talkgroup. Also the wayland tower was turned off a week or two ago. What other info do you want on the pagers?

Can you expound on "Feedback from everyone is mixed on the pagers" please?

It all dependings on where you are in the county how good the 800 coverage is. Areas like dorr only get 1 or 2 bars on the pagers. This causes Fire and ems departments to either get alerted and garbled voice or nothing at all. Some areas have better 800 coverage so it isn't a problem.

There is also the problem of people receiving different versions of firmware on their pagers. Some people are saying that a newer firmware is working better.

Everyone on the fire departments are used to vhf systems. These systems are better in coverage because you put the pager on your belt and you would always get toned and hear the page. The 800 system now you have to take the pagers off when you are in a car and put them in a cup holder otherwise the pagers will bonk that they are out of range. This seems to be a problem no matter where you are in the county. Battery life is also an issue. Pagers last maybe 18 hours. There is also an issue when the battery completely drains all the lights turn on and it requires you to take the battery out to reset it. That wasnt a problem on the monitor pagers but the unication ones requires a screw driver to access the battery compartment.
