Starting in April, Allegany County will begin to coordinate all EMS traffic for Garrett, Allegany, and Washington Counties. The MED channels for this will utilize MED 3 and MED 6 and also use CALL 1. All hospital patches with be done on MED 3 or 6 for all three counties. This ought to be interesting with three counties using two channels for patches. Anyone in this area that may have further info please submit here and update my info if I have missed something. MED 5 and MED 7 as well as CALL 2 will no longer be utilized. I am guess this will be the bridge into the new 700mHz system that is being worked on and I believe slated for 2010 or so. I believe some of this traffic will be sent through Fiber Optics that was laid in the middle of I-68 and I-70 in the late 90's and early 2000's.

There is a long story as how to use the MED channels. Basically a unit uses CALL 1 to call Allegany EMRC asks for a MED channel and is then assigned either 3 or 6. They go to that channel, key up and say perhaps Unit xxx standing by.... Keying up allows the system, by way of voters, to find the closest tower to the unit and switch radio traffic to that voter. Then the hospital comes on and away we go. Any corrections or additions to this post are gladly appreciated.

Are they going to continue to use 3 different tones for the 3 counties, or are they going to standardize them, too? If memory serves, Allegany uses Tone A, Garrett Tone B and Washington Tone C on their MED channels.

I need to update the CHM page - make sure this data goes to the database, for sure.

I submitted the info in the EMRC area on DB. I believe it will all be on the Tone A but I will need to verify and get back to you.
On a side note do you monitor any particular HAM repeater? I am usually on 145.330 on the "Outback Repeater System". See you on the Air.

I don't live anywhere near you, unfortunately. There's no way - short of echolink or IRLP, if my crappy phone line would support it - that I could reach that. I live in Glen Burnie and work in the Woodlawn area.

I usually keep the CARA 147.135 repeater on in the car, with the volume turned down - there's a lot of folks there, but they are often discussing things I won't be able to do anytime soon, darn it....

Very interesting. Will Allegany County assign a dispatcher specifically to handle the EMRC functions, or will it be a shared responsibility?

Two med channels should be plenty to hande EMS communications in the area. Remember, not too too long ago, all of Region III (Baltimore City, Baltimore Co, Anne Arundel Co, Harford Co, Howard County, & Carroll County) all shared Call-1, Med-4, and Med-8 before migration to their 800mhz systems.

Will "Allegany EMRC" have the ability to patch units into out-of-region centers, such at STC and other Baltimore area referral centers?
