each time the system creates a patch (toning out depts, patching TG's) it results in a SAID (system assigned ID). It lasts as long as the patch persists, and it runs numerically then recycles. In Alleghany, this ranges from 63401-63499. In Rockbridge it's 65101-65200. On scanners, if you do not listen for the SAID you will miss some radio traffic in a patch. The way to avoid this is to make an "agency" with those attached to it, or do ID search for that system. Conversely, if you don't want to hear Rockbridge and/or Alleghany traffic, you'll have to ID scan or lockout the appropriate SAIDs and TG's

In Rod's case, he just needs to change the settings within the scanner from Hex to Dec.

Probably best practice when monitoring a Harris system with a scanner is to define fixed tgs with a label, then set the scan mode to ID Search to detect / access dynamically assigned tgs, aka SAIDs..
