Hi: I picked up two of these radios at a hamfest. One is 30-50 and the other 148-176 ish. Both look new! Both dead. Both bad power switches that I cleaned. One had a shorted supply diode, changed. Speaker switch also bad. I bypassed it. It's doing something now, but the transformer gets hot pretty fast. Not stinking. Cools down fast, too. The other radio has electrical tape around the transformer. It doesn't work at all, like maybe a wire pulled loose? Nothing smells burnt. I can't find a schematic. I wonder if anyone knows if these were any good.
I had a Motorola Monitor Radio once and it was awesome!
Thanks
Harry

Transformer heating up- sounds like a short check filter caps in the power supply first

Other one be sure pwr supply is getting voltage then check its output

Many, many years ago my grandfather gave me an old Knight "StarRoamer" Shortwave receiver that he'd built. One of the first things he told me to do was to replace all the power supply capacitors as they'll dry out.
Second thing to do is clean all the pots.
