I replaced my 11 year old Antenna Supermarket Eavesdropper Sloper with a new Alpha Delta.
The Eavesdropper was fed through a balun at the high end going into 50' of coax to a Drake R8B. The Alpha Delta does not come with a balun. Is it necessary or recommended?

Probably not..in my HRO catalog I am reading the description and they only mention adding a tuner if you want to transmit with the Sloper. They suggest that the Sloper is "tuned" for the most popular SWL bands so everything points to not needing a balun.
But like I always say, experiment. A balun cannot hurt, so why not try it with or without one.

Thanks for that. I will cut out the old Eavesdroper balun and put it in the circuit to compare.
Not quite ready to hang it all up permanently yet as modest masts etc are forthcoming. The HF will hang from the top of that array. I will get to it and let you all know.
Thanks for your response.
