This hour DX'd 1110 KDIS-Radio Disney out of Pasadena at 20,000 watts. Socal again-must be the rainclouds cause 1090 San Diego Sports Radio is absolutely burying the needle at +40 wit 50,000 watts. Strong as the locals.
1070 KNX Los Angeles at +30

555khz ZIZ St. Kitts in the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles. Last of the 'split freq' stations in the Americas, although I think there are some low power stations in Central America on split frequencies yet. Anyway, I had pretty good copy on them at ~ 0130z tonight when both 550 St. Louis and 560 CHicago were relatively quiet at the same time (rare). I can usually hear the carrier from ZIZ, but audio is very hard from here. Tonight I finally had the patience to sit and listen to the raucous slop from 550 and 560 until they were both fairly quiet at the same time, then I could hear a man announcer followed by some folksy type music from ZIZ. Sounded sort of like Arlo Guthrie or something. I also raised up the ends of my Inverted L antenna over the past few days and I think that helped a lot too.

(Just checked the webpage - the program was 'Calypso Classics', so that makes sense)

As the song sez:.."there's something happenning here..what it is ain't exactly clear"..etc; Last two nights been hearing lots of heterodynes and stuff in null of "big ones" both 550 and 540 khz.
Could it be some of K9's luck is comin our way??
Also..heard both KPUA Hilo HI 50kw and KGU Honolulu HI 10kw ( 670 and 760 khz ) approx one hour after local sunset CA time and five am this morning. First time in YEARS! Things are 'a changin. Interestingly enough, most of the "regulars" heard from the Midwest and AZ/Nevada/ Utah/ Idaho directions are nowhere to be found.
Maybe Ridge'l hear 'em on his wire.

Had 555khz ZIZ St. Kitts in fairly well a bit earlier. Neil Diamond and similar songs heard in LSB. Also had some Spanish lang. station in on 760khz with Detroit's WJR phased. Could either be Mexico or Colombia, but it was just some talk program with no idents. Trying to build a new phaser box. Not happy with the RLC type I'm using now.

No ZIZ tonight. Condx not as good, however I had Radio Reloj from Cuba on top of 570 with the second pips and "RR" in morse. Nothing new there though as they come in for a while on most nights. 730 had some Spanish which may have been XEX Mexico City, and now have a French station which is probably CKAC Montreal but they beam to the north east so they aren't very loud here. Will keep at it for a while yet.

Had Radio Reloj, Cuba in on 570 quite loud around 0100z. Very strong "tic-toc" and morse "RR" on top of the pile. Then, nothing much until now, 0330z on 1060 where I've got Radio Education, 100kw out of Mexico City in/out with KYW phased out. Pretty strong at times plus there is another Spanish station in there weakly, but who knows who that might be.

It seems am is coming in good since the cold wx has arrived, using a ETON S350DL at the moment with an indoor loop.
Will have to cruise down to 570 for the Cubans, seems a few Spanish popping up along with Chinese which I think is relayed via Canadian radio.

Parked on 1060 again tonight with KYW phased. Mexico City XEEP Radio Education fading in/out along with another station running oldies rock'n roll. Had that rock station in the past few nights but finally caught the ID tonight - WQMV, Waverly, TN * 4 watts *. No wonder they never really got very loud. Cool, now I can move on.

Condx a little better tonight. I'll still be at it for a while, but here's my postings to the BCB logger so far:

Broadcast Band DX Logger!

Jan08 03:29 585 Spain? Very weak audio, but in there - rzz wi
Jan08 02:53 531 Algeria man/woman talking. Better copy with CIAO quiet - rzz
Jan08 02:41 531 Algeria with weak audio but getting swamped by CIAO - rzz
Jan08 02:26 555 ZIZ St. Kitts fair with music - rzz
Jan08 02:21 LSB with AGC off - rzz
Jan08 02:21 549 weak audio out of Germany. AGC off so the 550 slop doesn't desense the rx - rzz wi
Jan08 01:28 530 CHAO running Indian programming equal to Cuba that is classical. Toss in some LYQ beacon morse, and it's quite the mix! - rzz milw

I caught a new this morning and it's also a new state logged. This brings my total up to 42 states heard on medium wave since I started DXing again about two years ago.

750 Khz KHWG 09JA11 1310 UTC.mp3

Gotta love the hog sound effects! Distance is 1,701 miles and this was just before WNDZ came on the air. Sunrise skip rules!

Station in here kinda solid some nights, some nights barely if a all. My favorite "old country" music
format..use 'em to judge whether or not to persue more DX thataway. Ridge is right..Incredible!!
'Nuther good one is "the toad" ( can't remember the call letters) 1350 San Bernadino area.. (CA)
some nights good ..some "not even there".

Bought a Grundig AN-200 loop antenna with my Christmas money. I was hearing ZIZ 555 Saturday night/Sunday morning(1/9) night popping through at around 0200z. Used the 2.5 filter to cut the slop from 550 & 560.

Thanks Ridge - wish I could share the antenna with you :)

There was also some TA action early yesterday evening around 2330 UTC:

1089 Talksport UK was in with good audio and talk in English.

1134 Croatia was in good last night after phase-nulling the IBOC away. I had strong audio in a foreign language with piano blues music - very cool. Croatia was an easy catch last season, not so much this season. This is the first I've had audio on them this season.
