Thanks guys I spent a pile of money on Android recording and editing apps and one called wave pad edits kinda, but I use a couple different ones to record. I use a irigmic it works with my HTC One X because it just fits in the headphones jack. I can't turn the radio up at between 12-4. Oh yeah AND CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT THESE STORMS LETTING US PULL IN WHEN THEY STOP DX HEAVEN

K9rzz I've been playing with phasing before 9pm, and after. tonight I picked up two low power stations from Wisconsin.
Whet @ 5000 and wnam @ 5000 if you're in Milwaukee thats a good music station granted they skipped across the lake but I never heard them before http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/01/13/3upava3y.jpg this is what I set up. I'm getting a lazy Suzanne for the terk as soon as I get some extra money. I have one on the home brew and there a big help, anyway thank you for the knowledge

Well done, now you're getting the taste/feel for it :D

BTW your Dad looks to have done a nice job constructing the wooden frame for your wire loop from what I can see (pictures a little out of focus), kudos to him for facilitating your new found passion.

Last night (29/01/2013) was the first chance I have had in a little while to have a serious search on the band. This was also my first serious session with the 7.5” Loopstick Tecsun PL-380 Model which Gary sent me.

Overall the band was performing well with a number of Australian stations coming in at good signals level. One of the main advantages of the new set up is how directional it is which means I am able to null out many local (Tasmanian) stations to a level which allows me to receive other stations on the same frequency or in the case of the powerhouse on 1008kHz which is running 5KW less than 10km from my location, I was able to confirm 2NB from NSW on 999kHz running 2KW. I also was able to hear 2KY on 1017kHz and 7SH St Helens on 1584kHz running 100W.

Turning to my two "go to frequencies" for New Zealand I was able to receive 1386kHz - Radio Tarana the strongest I have ever heard it. It was showing 26/18 on the PL-380 signal display. Moving down the band to my other good checking frequency of 909kHz I was able to receive Southern Star NZ - Napier at a distance of just over 2500km.

My next target is to try and hit some West Australian and Northern territory stations; the distances for these are up over 3000km.

Radio: 7.5" Loopstick Tecsun PL-380
Total stations logged: 85
New stations logged: 1
Furthest station logged: 1386 kHz - Radio Tarana (NZ) - 2430km

Notes: Last night for a bit of a change and due to the high temperatures (Still showing 33c at 9pm) I decided to take my UL radio outside for a bit of a listen around the bands. After finding a good spot on our front steps I hit my two test frequencies of 909 kHz and 1386 kHz which both showed some weak signals but nothing which was strong enough to copy at that point. I then started off at the bottom of the band and gave each frequency a good check including multiple times for some where signal levels were not very strong the first time around. My total loggings were around the average with only a couple of the normal stations not appearing at all or at very weak levels.
The only new station logged was 567 kHz - 2BH from Broken Hill. This was mixing with 4JK on the same frequency but I was able to null this out to get enough audio to log it.

Total stations logged: 125
New stations logged: 2
Furthest station heard: 1386 kHz - Radio Tarana (NZ) - 2430km

Notes: last night I was lucky enough to be able to devote an hour and a half last night to DXing. This was done from the comfort of my lounge room chair. Starting around 20:45 local which was after sunset some good signals were receiving from Victoria and New South Wales stations up to 774 kHz, above this the band was a mess and signal levels were very low, even some of the stronger stations which I normally hear were missing or inaudible. Sitting on my two test frequencies of 909 kHz and 1386 kHz showed some traces of signals but they were mostly below the noise floor. As the night progressed and I kept searching the band around 21:15 local the band came alive and the next hour was spent logging a large number of stations, much more than the 80-100 that I can normally hear on an average night. By the end of my session I had logged 125 stations including two new ones:
981 kHz - 2NM
1602 kHz - NZ PRINT RADIO

1602 kHz - NZ Print Radio was quite a catch as it is normally knocked out by a local station on 1611 kHz beaming from the same direction which makes nulling it out quite hard.

Nice logs Lonny. 1500 miles is a good haul IMO. I've got to give my Delmonico Novum a shot at some MWDX. I have it on the switch to the roof antenna, and since it isn't nearly as sensitive as the other rigs here, that has a quieting quality on MW and shortwave, which can result in cleaner listening on MW for those stations further out. Plus it has a nice audio with the tubes:)
I just need to develop your level of patience:D

Thanks for the reply. I am normally hitting around that mark most nights, my plan is to try and extend that in the future.

Patience is one thing have a lot of :)
